So yeah, when I first joined this forum, I joined to learn about the AR15 platform and eventually got one in April 2010. But then life took a shit on me in May and I sold it to help buy a casket for my dad.

Then in October I was trying to decide what rifle to buy to get me back into shooting, and I ended up choosing a Remington 700 over another AR15.

So I'm curious, is there anyone else who doesn't own an AR15? If so, why?

I still stick around on here though because to my knowledge it's the best firearm forum on the net, and it caters to all sorts of shooters.

Here's my 700:

should do a poll to find out how many in GD actually own a firearm of any kind

Nice rifle BTW

I wouldn't have one let alone three of them......

I've always wanted to shoot an AK, but never have. I almost bought an Arsenal AK74 once though due to the insane amount of ammo I could afford with it.

First off- much sympathy for losing your dad dude I can't imagine losing mine right now.

Secondly- Massively sweet 700, wish I had one like that. What scope is that?

Thirdly-I don't own an ar 15 simply because I'm in college and can't afford one right now. Soon as I graduate and get some cash I'm building one.

I hope you don't feel left out because you no longer own an AR. Buy and shoot whatever you enjoy shooting! We'll still let ya hang around.

Nope.

Had one stolen and had to sell the other in a dire circumstance.

Been trying to afford another one for quite some time.

It's the ammo cost more than the rifle cost IMO. But the nice thing about the AR is you can buy peices kind of like a layaway plan

Don't own one, and it's the last of the firearms on my list right now.  Looking to pick up a SA Loaded and Rem 700 SPS-T before eventually building a cheap AR.  And I'll probably buy reloading equipment before the AR.

It all evens out, some guys here have enough to outfit an entire platoon.  So all in all we probably have 3 ARs per person.

You come hear to learn about the AR15, but end up staying for life because of the shenanigans.

Firstly, thanks. It was super rough and I still find myself not believing it. The bag behind my rifle in the picture was my dad's.

Secondly, thanks again. It's a very basic build compared to most people's 700s. The scope is SWFA's SS 10x scope, and for $300 it's a pretty good scope and suits my needs perfectly.

Thirdly, I hear ya! I'm saving up for college right now, and the money spent on this rifle could have gone into savings, but I figure ~$1200 won't matter much in the grand scheme. And it will allow me to have some fun which I'm in dire need of. AR's add up quick though, its horrible.

I just sold mine. But I also have an AK. I would go to my AK before my AR. So I didn't lose anything but money when I sold it.

I can't imagine not having a quality combat rifle (and pistol.)  My TV or computer would go before any guns... or at least the last gun of either of those types.

I don't because I prefer AK's.

I've had numerous AR's in the past though. Just not my preference.

Nice! When I built my AR, I had the lower sitting around for a few weeks until the upper arrived. The joining of an upper and a lower is such a great feeling.

I have 4 I think.  For the life of me I don't know why, but the last gun show I was at I was looking for a couple of more lowers.  I don't even need them, but, I guess I already have parts laying around anyway...

It really is BRD.

Mine were lost in a tragic accident when hundreds of bags of frozen milk spilled out from a truck onto the highway.

It was such a traumatic experience that now I want to move to a place where milk is sold in cartons and plastic jugs.

RRA, GSE, AK-74

Built the RRA from scratch, every single piece. That was fun. Maybe an AR-10 next but first I need to try out and restore my M-1 Garand.

Was all set to get one and then got laid off... It is cheaper for me to stay at home with the boys then to work, since my wife makes more money then I do anyway.  Some day, some day......With that being said I have M&P .40 that got an hour before I found out I was laid off, I was on my way to pick out an AR15 when I found out no jobbbie.......

Had to sell guns to afford school a few years ago.  either the AKs or the ARs were gonna go.  I stuck with the AK, and sold all of my ARs and accessories 3 months before Obama was voted in.  Sold 2 rifles, 6-7k of ammo(santa barbara, norinco, IMI, LC, etc...), 30+ mags, scope, and I don't even remember what else.  If I had waited 4 months, I could have made more just from selling the ammo and keeping the rifles and everything else.

Not owning an AR15 is understandable as long as you have some kind of weapon for self-defense. I will not be a snob and dog out other weapon designs.

However, to be on this website and not own a gun period. Is strange in my book.

(Financial or employment reasons void the opinions listed above)
