So is anyone else addicted to Rock crawling. I have been doing it for around 2 years. The cab truck was a 84 Toyota cut down and 4 linked in the rear. The new buggy is a Jimmy Smith Chassis on FJ60/80 hybrid axles with a 22re on propane. It has dual cases with a 4.7 rear case. It is a 170.1 crawl ratio.

That's just like saying that gun owners enjoy spending lots of money on guns and the destroying them by creating a controlled explosion in the chamber and slowly destroying the gun by eroding the throat with each shot and shooting the rifling out of it. So I guess you kind of do the same thing when you are shooting your guns. |

If you can walk up some of it you sir are spider man. But yes most of it you can walk up. But driving up it is a different story.

I've always wanted a mechanical mountain goat, just don't have the money for it.

AWESOME
my dream is to build a single seated buggy like a that. |
|
It's cool if you're driving, slightly less fun if you're spotting. For every guy driving there are at least six people standing there drinking a monster and talking about how awesome their Jeep is going to be. And at almost every obstacle there is a line of 10+ vehicles waiting on their turn. But it still beats the shit out of sitting at home, laughing at frog memes all day.

Any idea what kind of power you are making with a 22re on propane?
The set of shocks you have on your buggy cost more than my first two cars! Awesome! |

I've never been rock crawling but I sure as hell want to build a transaxle buggy. They seem like they would be awesome fun with an IFS and ~34-35" tires. Attached File

Nice rig OP and yes on the wheeling addiction. Mine was Chevy K30s in the early 80 and into the 90s. The north Gawga area was rich with places to go, but your already aware of such.
I miss Tellico terribly but do enjoy that there are so many parks to play in via the private sector. Wanted a dedicated buggy for a long time, but at 51 years old and retirement looming, it seems I will just enjoy my 05 Rubicon on the trails. For anyone who has never been wheeling over technical areas of terrain. It's both fun and addicting, also a gateway drug to big rigs and extra low final drive ratios. See ya on the trail. |

I went with a buddy in AZ a few times, it was extremely fun! We were drinking beers though, not Monsters

Can you explain the benefits of propane? View Quote I know it burns cleaner than gas, it also does not matter how steep of an incline you go up that could starve a fuel pump and carburetor and cause a stall which could be dangerous. Also it's more compact than a gasoline fuel tank and I'm assuming it can give a longer driving range than a small fuel tank of the same physical size. |

Can you explain the benefits of propane? View Quote When you are running carbureted engines you have to run propane because it is a gas and doesn't cut out when you are on a steep incline. It also runs alot cooler because it is actually closer to 110 octane gas. Also fuel injection on a 22re can be quite troublesome and when you are in a nasty spot the less chance of a running problem the better. Propane will keep a engine running upside down. |

View Quote I have never saw a dyno sheet on a 22r but I have saw lots of dyno sheets on some bad ass LS buggies and by the time you go through the drive train it is some pretty extreme losses. The motor in the white buggy is a built 22re so I would venture to say it is somewhere around 100 at the crank and around 60 at the rear tires. HP is a great thing but for technical rocks I will make a LS buggy look goofy when I walk right through. It's easier to kick a beach ball through a rock pile than it is to kick a bowling ball. And with my gearing it has a ton of torque. |

Yeah but on a smaller scale, I do rock climbing, trails and mud. same difference build it,drive it,tear it up and fix it...lol http://i68.tinypic.com/2cgh9ac.jpg View Quote I never really cared for the rzr much. I don't have anything against them but the stuff we ride they won't hold up. To each his own though. As long as people are riding I am happy. |

That is the 1 and only time I went to Aetna. The crowd up there is pretty rough. I go to AOP atleast once a month though. |

View Quote It may make it through it but it will be yardsaled. I have saw them climb some nasty shit but they are destroyed when they come out the top. They have either broke a axle or the differential. It's hard enough to keep a full blown buggy together. A RZR gets destroyed every time it comes off the trailer. |

Sorta. I got my son a radio control rock crawler earlier this year and it proved to be a heck of a lot more fun than I expected.
The cost of a real was is just nuts for something you will break. |

Did you race KOH or is that pictures you took? Those are just pics off the net. I'll be there this year specatating. It's only about 2 hours away. I'm a bike guy, but the rock crawlers are cool. Crazy what they can drive through. |

One day I want to take a trip out there and ride Moab, The rubicon, Fordyce, and the Hammer trails. I know for a fact that I will go to KOH one day.

The only off roading I have ever done is a few hard to reach camping areas in SoCal, in my XJ, and 4 wheelers on Michigan trails. IFS seemed to work better for the faster stuff and it has stuck with me. If I ever hit the rocks hard, it will definitely be 3/4 link. |

Not me, looks like fun.
I have better things to spend my money on. |
