Seems like a good concept. Police and Fire only network that has additional cell sites on department repeaters, thus giving them priority in disasters. Price isn't bad either with $45 for unlimited voice, text, and hotspot data with no throttling.

Moved from Verizon to Firstnet ATT.
It’s been a month and good so far. Added a new phone for my wife and FIL and our bill should be in the $125-150 per month ?? |
Is it a department use only type plan or something we can use as individual officers?
Some guys in our dept have switched to first net. So far they can not tell a difference and said it cost more. From my research it should cost less if your doing the individual plan.
It was marketed to us that users get priority service over other users on towers. Reading the fine print of that contract it doesn’t state that anywhere. Only priority data use. Maybe wrong but not switching over until I see the guys in our dept getting better service. Vol Fire here. |
Hope to have the local rep come by the FD next month. Seems like a pretty good deal however i'm still on the old southwestern Bell plan. The one truly unlimited plan. Even in the fine print First Net says unlimited data/text/talk for 22gbs a month for 3 consecutive months. I hope i'm wrong about that though.
I got it last weekend. Price is awesome and the concept of where they want to be in a few years makes a lot of sense.
I use it.
I was able to use my phone during a large festival this summer where everyone around seemed to be limited to texting. |
Just switched my personal phone over. Few dollars/month more for unlimited with hotspot vs my Verizon 2gb/month plan. Cheaper if I drop the hotspot option.
Department is switching everything over from Verizon as well, will be saving a considerable amount of money. |
We switched the Cradlepoints in our cruisers over to a ATT FirstNet SIMM card.
So far Data is faster and we don't get the data drop that we used to during large events when lots of cellular users would overload the towers. |

During the recent earthquake I was on duty. I don’t have firstnet and could not get through to call my family for over an hour. My crew members who have it could call at any time.
I didn’t make a lot of calls after the quake but maybe 5 minutes after the dust settled I called my family in CA. Soon after I was helping a neighbor and they couldn’t get a call through to their family in TX. They borrowed my FirstNet phone and their call went through with no issues.
I use it. Individual plan as opposed to agency. I can make calls in a stadium full of 95,000 people when no one around me can make a call
I just switched from sprint to FirstNet and so far so good.
A COUPLE of local firefighters changed and like it. The ones who never leave town.
Here in Montana I have zero ATT coverage unless I travel 35+miles from my home area so it's a no-go for me. They get a couple towers up though I'm in. The guys who do have it love it. They just have zero cell coverage outside their hometown where there is a tower. |
Any updates on this system and everyone's experience with it?
It just got offered to me due to my Guard duties, and I'm considering it for my personal cell. |
I got it a couple months ago. It's been perfect so far. The cost is only a little less than we were paying before but the benefits by far out weigh the small savings.
I got it back around October. So far so good. The only time I could tell a difference is back when my kid swam at a state swim meet. The tower was bogged down by the # of people there. My wifes att line would barely call out...bout 1 out of 10 tries would go through.
Mine had no issues calling out or in. |
Is it really $45 a month or do they tack on the extra taxes and fees?
I transferred to First Net from Verizon in late October. I was able to use my old phone number.
It is $45 plus taxes and fees for unlimited with hot spot that works great for my tablet. Was paying more for a limited plan from V. I also got a new phone while I was at it. Also got $200.00 for transferring to AT&T. I am getting 5g speed here in the city. Several of my coworkers have switched with no problems and like it also. I was very leary of transferring to First Net but have been very happy |
I just got a work phone and it has it.
I am already on AT&T and want to look in to it to switch to. I dont get the first responder credit because I havent looked in to it yet. I was just getting .gov employee discount. Anybody else moved to it already on AT&T? |

I'm on AT&T and went to the store to sign up after talking to a rep online. The online rep left out the part about Firstnet is an additional fee on top an unlimited plan. I.e. you need to pay for an unlimited plan, plus the ~ $45 firstnet price. I have an old grandfathered 12gig plan that isnt throttled which costs way less, so I stayed with that. Good to hear, got a link you can share to where I can get the real information. So far 2 separate AT&T store managers have given me different information.

I went by the store yesterday afternoon.
Phones are buy one get one free. But you can't pay the full cost up front. It has to go on the installment plan. Which is a 30 month installment plan, you can pay off the phone after the billing cycle starts and that takes you off the 30 month contract. You do have to pay the taxes on both phones up front. They do have one phone if it's just you for .99 cents. iirc the Galaxy S9. The only difference between a FirstNet phone and the regular phone is the SIM card. Looks like around $125 a month for the service. Mine with unlimited everything and hot spot, the Mrs. phone unlimited everything, no hot spot. If changing from another carrier and want to keep your old phone number, need your account number and PIN number. If you have AT&T Uverse you get $15 off your internet bill and $15 off your TV bill. So for me that saves $360 a year. You also get a $150 rebate to your bill. And 40% off stuff you buy that day to go with your phone. |
Just as a note. I was at an event in a rural area about 4 to 5 miles from the interstate. This past weekend.
My phone with Sprint, barely got a signal, dropped calls, no internet. My son and another guy with FirstNet had full service and watching youtube videos. |
I have a company issued AT&T phone so I get priority over firstnet in a disaster so no.

I got FirstNet in January. So far it is going very well.
Cons from the people in my area almost unanimously.......Pay close attention to all billing issues and swap over. Our local ATT has screwed that part up severely. Made it overly complicated. I am gtg now. You need an iPhone 8 or better on the Apple side to actually take advantage of the FirstNet services. You can get it, but won't be able to use it with say an iPhone6. Beyond that, I am pleased so far and give it a thumbs up. The billing issues are totally due to the local store I think. You gotta get ALL the internet stuff verified and filled out. |

Based on what I was told by the ATT FirstNet specialists, that phone is incapable of taking advantage of the black sim card that gets you priority FirstNet service. You can use that phone on FirstNet but it is no different than regular ATT service. You should check that out. You may not be getting full benefit from your FirstNet account. It will still get priority (because it's on FirstNet). It just cannot communicate on Band 14 (which gives better maximum range from tower, and has higher bandwidth availability). That being said, I would not purchase a device for my agency (or myself) unless it's compatible with Band 14. (See list posted by Lug1) View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

(See list posted by Lug1) If I have it wrong, well I am just regurgitating the class their rep came out and gave to multiple fire stations in my city. The guys who didn't have the black sim cards went to Jerry world for a Cowboy game. They were accompanied by guys who had X's and black sim cards. The guys with the black sim cards streamed youtube. The guys who didn't couldn't get out. The subsequently upgraded their phones. |

I've been on it sense Sept/Oct... It works good and as advertised... I have been in a high use area/time where non-First Net users were not getting service.. My shit went right through most Ricky-Ticky..

FYI, they were offering the S9 for .99 cents. I needed two phones so I got the BOGO deal.
