I am going out of my mind... I have been unemployed for too long!

Must.. network.. things... My whole house is now running on Citrix I've learned a good deal of Unix. And I'm goin broke.

If you know of anyone that might be looking, let me know. I have 10+ years in all things M$, Citrix, Cisco, etc...

Blast this job market... I would almost take any job besides whopper flopper...

Might check with the New Phoenix Casino in La Center, WA. Its not your area, but close. The guy I hired to replace me recently quit.

I'm looking for something similar in Phoenix, though I'm thinking of sending resumes out to states who reciprocate with our CCW.  Don't any of you guys out there who aren't hard core computer geeks need people like us in your company? [:)]

How about a Sandwich Technician at Subway? The store on Fourth Ave just south of Lander Street seems to have difficulty keeping the graveyard shift staffed and us hungry railroaders gotta eat somewhere. Ate at Denny's last night. Can't take too much of that.

I'm going that route too.  However, many techies are good at making things happen, not good at bullshitting people to get contracts.  I've seen time and time again that clients would rather see a quote for 40 hours at $30/hr than 10 hours at $60/hr.  Honesty isn't a good selling point in this market, and many technical people deal with demonstratable facts, so making stuff up feels unnatural.

And I thought it was me!! I went out on my own a few years ago, for about 3 years. Absolutely hated it for the reasons you stated. I couldn't lie to customers. Fortunately, a friend owns his own company and could sell refrigerators to Eskimos, so he stretched the truth and I did the work. That did cause problems too as he promised more than could be delivered, or was technically possible. I just didn't have the patience for it and went back to making other people rich!

Was looking for network jobs in Seattle this past winter/spring too - Took my 6 months to find the job I wanted and had to settle for less money then I was making at a Dot-Bomb. Ending up moving to get out of an apartment in Seattle and found a job south.

Have you gotten your MS or Cisco certs yet?

We have a technical institute and several community colleges around here that are looking for people to teach both full and part time.  They don't even require any certs...I think you just have to get up in front of the teachers and perform a mock class.  Anyway, it's something you might want to explore.  I'm thinking of doing it nights so I can pay for my upcoming nuptials/honeymoon.  They're dying for people to teach Netware.  Just a suggestion.  Good luck!!

Oh yeah, they require real-world experience too, and obviously that wouldn't be a problem for you.

BTT because I'm tired of running exploits on the T&T servers

Technical writing? Sure, but mostly from a "if I get hit by a truck at lunch, here's what you need to do to keep shit up" standpoint.

I swear, I'm gonna have to move back to Sydney,AU and get my Vodaphone job back. Consulting to the Mariners just ain't cutting it. (Although I get great ticks. who's gonna be at the Cleveland games?)

Many years back I worked for someone like that.  It really was a good setup, because I could be honest and do a good job, with the occaisional walking on water necessary to accomplish the pipe dreams he promised, and he could be the common enemy the customer and I could focus on when something that was quoted for 8 hours took a week because it should have been quoted for 2 weeks.  However, I always got it done and always got paid, so it wasn't all bad.
