They're pretty much all I wear. I wear whatever I can get my hands on. Cotton, mostly, with a couple linen and silk, and several rayon. It's all good.
I want to get some genuine Hawai'ian ones, though, because they're far more subdued, and actually considered formalwear for business and state occasions in Hawai'i. |

There was a shop in Dana Point (so Cal) that sold a number of the Magnum PI prints. I picked up the standard red one, but they also had the purple one with white flowers...need to get that next time I'm in town.
 I love Hawaiian shirts. I have a number of them mostly prefer the heavy cotton though. Not sure of sources...I'm guessing in Missouri it is slim pickings

I wear them when I'm not dressed for something specific.
Cotton is the best IMHO because it breathes, but can be hard to find, and the colors fade after a while. Rayon is a good compromise; it doesn't breathe nearly as well, but the colors are brighter and stay bright. Many of mine say "dry clean only" - they're fine in the washer. Polyester looks nice and doesn't wrinkle, but it don't breathe - so in humid weather you'll be uncomfortable. Many of mine came from Target. Some from Walmart. Some from clearance racks elsewhere. If you can't tell, I don't care about labels or what's "in style" - if it hides my weapon, it'll do. |

No, I get enough wierd looks and stares walking around in uniform on duty. The last thing I want to do is get them on my day off because I'm walking around dressed like Don Ho.

I just looked, I have 16 in the closet. Heres the trick for keeping them bright. Air dry them. NO DRYERS! When you need to wear one, either iron it or put a DRY shirt in the dryer for 3 minutes to smooth out most of the wrinkles and carry on as usual. |

I like Hawaiian / Aloha shirts, they look a lot better than wearing a t-shirt

Got a few. Phil Edwards designed stuff and Eddy from Reyn Spooner. I try and buy them used from a shop nearby, $25.

I'm not brand or material specific.
I have some authentic from Hawaii I like, I also have some ones I got in Walmart I reallly like. It just depends on how the shirt wears on me I guess. |

Hawaiian shirts were cool about five years ago. You old timers gotta get with the groove! J/k. You guys need to get some polo shirt style cotton shirts. Not the rough polo material, but more of a soft cotton. They come cut a little bigger with a nice tail so you don't have to tuck them in. CCW padadise. Cool, breathable, comfortable, and somewhat dressy. The one I'm wearing now is by Burnside, black with gray horizontal stripes, cost me a grand total of six bucks and the ladies love it.

I figured real ones were cotton or linen; I couldn't imagine wearing a polyester shirt being a staple clothing item in the tropics. Natural fibers baby

Law: Rayon is best. OR...believe it or not 50/50 cotton/poly. All cotton is never used for a real Aloha Shirt. 100% cotton is inauthentic, as is silk. Hell I just got back from Gander Mountain, they were running a sale on their clearance merchandise, 50% off the lowest tagged price!! I got 3 Woolrich camp shirts, 6 Sherpa Hawaiin prints, and 2 Columbia Hawaiins for $3 to $7 each!! Since the GF told me to take $200 and go get a couple of new shirts, and a pair of pants, and I spent $73 on much more, I decided to buy all the Q3131 I could with the balance of the $200!

They are generally comfortable to wear. A bit loud to wear if you are on the mainland. Hawai'i is very laid back and I would love to live there. The Hawai'ian shirt kind of says a lot about the culture. Chill, relax, no rat race, no high stress job, no idiot drivers in the Wal*Mart parking lot who zip around at 35 mph in the cross walk zone while you are in the middle pushing a shopping cart(my first ARFCOM Wal*Mart rant), and so on.

I've outgrown a lot of my hawaiian shirts, especially the rayon ones. Now it's mostly cotton with a few rayon. |

A little old Hawaiin lady once sat me down and gave me the history and facts about proper Aloha wear. Maybe she was wrong, but If you look at Reyn's, you'll find the older stuff is all "spooner Cloth" or rayon. My 2 cents.

Yeah, I've got about 6 or 7 of 'em. Mine are all rayon from JC Penney, Beall's and Wal-Mart. Wherever I find one that I like for a good price. To me, they're more comfortable in FL than a cotton t-shirt, although I wear those a lot too. In fact, I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt right now.
I wore a really bright colored one to a job interview once, just for the hell of it (actually it was a job fair) and got hired on the spot! |
