Picked up a nearly new ALICE pack at a garage sale last week. Inside, there was this weird combo tool. Anyone know what it is? The ALICE pack came from the home of an Army SSG, so I'm assuming it's an issue item--everything else in it was (couple of earplug boxes, a helmet cover, etc.)

Do I pitch it, or is it something useful?

I suggest you find the nearest lake and toss it in the deep end before the ATF sees you with it...........what ever it is!

That's all I have to say about that.

that's the part that Mrs Brady is missing out of her brain. That is called the logic and reality gear link thingy. As we all know how serious it is if you don't have one. I mean without that you could end up saying some pretty stupid things....

It's a M249 scraper tool.

It comes with an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.

Used for scraping carbon out of gas regulator and replacing the regulator when being reassembled.

If I remember correctly I always saw the guys in Weapons platoon ( M-60's, Mortars, Smals, etc ) with these contraptions. I believe it is some kind of cleaning tool/scraper for the M60.... it is defintely not a drop in auto sear

Then I'll need to go out and find five more of these! Maybe I should ship one to John Kerry?

It's an M249 scraper tool. It's used for removing carbon and assisting in replacing the gas regulator when you reassemble the weapon.

It's best kept tied to the SAW gunner so he doesn't get lost.

edited to add: I'm 110% positive.

This is the tool when put into use BTW.

It's also used for removing carbon from the operating rod and gas piston... I actually read these little cartoons at work, go figure.

it's a doohickey that attaches to the watchamacallit and thingamajig which makes up the main component on a doofenator valve.

It's a parkerized filament charging tool used in atomic reactors. It converts negative ions to positive ions which causes the reactor wall to anneal it self thereby reducing cracking and warping

And here all along I thought it was a Jensen disgronificator; you know, the kind Jordie always uses to reverse the polarity of the deflector shield.
