Great horned ate my granddads dog out in Sandy.
Don't know if that helps. |

If it's still pissed in the morning let it go were you got it. Owls are very territorial, an this is breeding season for them. If released in another owls territory it will be killed. If it don't look good call DNR an they will give you a number of a vet. Good on you for helping it out!

|
Just leave it alone until you can get it help. It was good that you stopped and helped it. Good deed.

Juicy meat and disturb it as little as possible.
And an IV of Ringer's lactate. |

Quoted: I hear they like tootsie pops. Thanks for the help. Now lean forward and choke yourself. |

If he's healthy, let him go. As a bird of prey, a raptor in this case, it is protected by federal law.

Quoted: Are you taunting it with a fork? No. I asked my wife to hold the flap of box down. I suggested fer finger. She used a fork |

There is a bird rescue place here that specializes and is licensed for raptors. So, I am going to assume hes hurt from impact and call the bird people at first light. I am NOT going to keep him. |

That eye has intensity. New "I see what you did there" pic? |

Quoted: I love owls Please dont hit anymore of them I love them too. I feel like shit. |

Good for you taking it in and helping.
Up here, owls have taken chickens in the back yard, and cats in the neighborhood go missing.

There was a story in the papers here about a guy that hit an owl and it feigned death, so he put it in the backseat and drove to a vet.
Then his phone rang and it un-feigned itself on the highway... |

A guy my father knows had that happen with a deer. He knocked one out one with his car early in the morning on the way to work and thought he killed it. He tossed it in the back of the station wagon and 10-15 minutes later totaled his car when it woke up OP: Owls and birds of prey are cool, glad to hear you are trying to save it. |

How ironic that your avatar, and that owl eye would meet....

Hope everything turns out OK for Mr Owl. Truly a beautiful bird

Buddy of mine was fishing, working a top water lure. Great horned owl swooped from a tree and grabbed it. He had to reel him in get it in the boat and get it untangled without losing his rod or any fingers.
That's entertainment |

IIRC, The law allows a person to possess an injured animal for 24 or 48 hours for the purpose of getting it to a rehabilitation facility. Just throwing that one out there so people aren't afraid to help. |

Is this a pre-dinner pic ?
j/k owl's are majestic birds - you are doing the right thing - |

I do know something about owls. My wife worked for a while at the local zoo and used to do presentations and such with them. The first thing she learned is that when they are pissed off, owls will fuck you up. They are pretty good with their talons and they use their beaks to crush mouse skulls and eat their brains(which is impressive to watch), so you may want to try to find something pretty sturdy to transport him in. Thin cardboard isn't going to present much of an obstacle.

Your thread seems... familiar.
Somebody else posted the hawk they found, in a box, with one evil yellow eye peering out....it was pissed too. I can't remember who that was, and I can't remember the outcome. It'd be neat if you updated the outcome to this. I like owls. |

I was driving through town one day and a DNR Crown Vic was next to me with what looked like a big ass stuffed owl sitting on the front passinger seat on a briefcase. (I was up high in a van looking down into the car) and a few seconds later, the damned owl turned it's head and looked straight at me with that "Fuck You" look on it's face. There was two windows and about 6 foot of space between us, but I still about shit myself.
I know...Cools Story, Bro.... |
|
They get stunned, It happened to me about 7 or 8 years ago ( might even be able to find the thread in the archives about it)
Long story short, after it cracked off my windshield, It was laying in the road, I wrapped it in an old coat and put it in the back seat of my car.. With the intention of going home and calling the game commission. It came through about 15 min later, and was sitting on the headrest looking around. I ended up reporting it anyways and asked if/were I should let it go, there just said if you live near woods that is a good spot, so I did. I for a few years after that I would see it or at least hear it occasionally.. |
|
my brothers had one a pet back in the late 50's. one of them fed the owl a cricket and it died. that's all I know
