Or any other of the Christian healthcare cost sharing programs like Samaritan Ministries, Christian Healthcare Ministries, Christian Care Ministry, and Liberty HealthShare?  These are ACA approved so to avoid the Obamacare penalty.

Any experiences? Do you like it?

My next health ins increase will push us north of $800/month for 2 people.

I ain't payin' $10,000 a year.....

The City of Tulsa uses a health insurance company run by the Catholic Church. It sucks and they are raising their rates by 20-30% next year.

My wife does. The O'care company (Land of Lincoln Health) that had started up to reap the windfalls of Baracks' obamination went bellyup.

CHM is highly recommended by us. Very inexpensive per month with an occasional request for a few bucks more for member's catastrophic expenses. Overall, very cheap.

Went from an Obamacare premium of over $800/month for one person, with a ridiculous deductible, to $69/month.

I had it for a while when I was unemployed after getting laid off, didn't use it, but didn't want to pay the IRS penalty so was worth it.

They don't pay doctors office visit copays and you have to pay bill up front then get reimbursed, but seemed ok.

Was certainly way cheaper than the BC/BS premiums we looked at.

Do you have to be a member of a church or go to regular worship to be a member of CHM?

I don't think they call your preacher for an attendance report, but I think they want you to be a faithful worship attender, if your health permits.

Holy Smokes (no pun intended), thanks for this tip, I never heard about CMH. I had to take the FBHO fine last year and will this year too for not having insurance for my wife.

No idea.

On a personal note, if they want Christians to help share their burden, they should probably convert to Christianity.  Otherwise, they should take it up with their local Mullah.

We've been CHM members for about 3 years now. We're self employeed and it cost us about $240 a month for a family of 4 which is SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper than what the minimum Obamacare plan would cost.  I don't believe in or support Obamacare anyways and would no way accept a substidised plan so it wasn't even an option for us.  We compared pros / cons of all the others (medashare, Samaritans, etc) and chm was best for us but ymmv. I like the flexibility of being able to use any provider and not being locked into a network like medishare. Also like the flexibility of different levels of "coverage" and being able to have different members at different levels. Wife and I are on the minimum level with $5000 deductible per incident while the kids are on the highest with only a $500 deductible for the year.

To me, it works how affordable insurance should. Basic care and visits are not covered and you work out a cash price directly with the provider. We have saved a lot of money by calling around and asking what is the cash price for services and it does vary considerably. Another nice benefit is that any cash discount the provider makes goes directly to your deductible.  For example, a $10,000 procedure that the give a %40 cash discount equals $4000 credit to your deductible.

If you go to the doctor a lot of have a lot of medication then it might not be for you. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me directly.

I signed up my wife and kids for it..... With Liberty Healthshare. They have no faith requirements (though we are Christians). I grilled them. They haven't raised rates in a long time.

-Cannot smoke or drink, and they won't pay for abortion
-1 free wellness visit per year for each member

We pay $375/mo for 1 adult + 3 kids.

My wife and I have Liberty Healthshare. It runs us $250 a month I believe for both of us, with a combined "deductible" (unshared amount) of $1000. After the unshare amount is reached, I believe we are covered up to 1 million with 100% coverage.

I would recommend it to anyone.

About to go on it again...  was on it 10 years ago.  Obamacare premiums are more than before Obamacare with less coverage and higher deductible.

Our family has Liberty.  It is very reasonably priced.

Can't really give you many details, as we have had it only about a year and we haven't ever used it.  Fortunately, we do not need to go to the Dr. much and we have all(thank God) been healthy.  Additionally, my wife is an MD and if the family needs their nose blown or a few stitches, she does it.

Thanks for posting this thread. Good info here. People need to know they have other choices. I will probably be looking into these types of things soon when I see the premiums for my wife and I next year in a week.

I'm on CHM. Never had to use it, but I had a catastrophic BCBS plan, so I never used it either. If I recall, the deductible, which is called the "unshared portion" or something like that, is per incident, not per year. Also Rx isn't covered, which would be a deal breaker to some. I have no problem with the faith component and  lifestyle requirements, but if you are hesitant, check out Liberty. I looked at them and they seem like a reputable group.

CHM sends out info each month on who received your contribution, so it gives you satisfaction not paying into a black hole. Sometimes they give specifics. One month I helped cover medical bills for some guy who fell off his roof cleaning his gutters. Another I helped a family with a sick child. I kinda look forward to getting that each month!

THE KICKER- I'm a healthy 28yo with no claims for years. Every time I pay my monthly premium, I smile knowing I'm doing my part to take down ACA. I pay 1/6 what my BCBS plan was going to jump to this past January and my deductible (equivalent) is $1500 LESS. Help kill Obamacare. Join some kind of medical share group.

We use it as do several of our friends. No issues so far and it's WAY cheaper than regular insurance. If you're one that goes to the doctor for every sore throat and tummy ache its not for you. Mainly meant to buffer large health expenses.
