I am going there in a few days. My wife is on an assignment there and I will probably have 4-5 days to get around on my own and explore. Any good suggestions for a walkabout? Anything that should not be missed? We will be going to the night zoo, little India, I just read about Arab street (which I will go to), already done the Raffles thing a few years ago when I was there. We will also be going to Sentosa Island, Orchard Road, Jurong Bird Park. Anything I should not miss???
Thinking about going here too: http://www.s1942.org.sg/s1942/bukit_chandu/location.htm                                                  I already know about the spitting on the street, drug policy, canning, etc.:wedgie:
Looking for those places that I might miss if I didn't have somebody in the know to direct me.

Thanks

Last time I was there, the NAVY gave me a list of places that were off limits, so I knew exactly where to go.

DO NOT SPIT ON THE STREET.
Do not do anything that could remotely be considered improper.
You will end up getting your ass WHIPPED ( With a stick)with .gov sanction.

Orchard Towers = Four Floors of Whores. It was off limit to us but no one cared because it was actually 4-floors of Lady Boys.

I'd recommend the botanical gardens, they were pretty cool. The riverside area was really nice. There's a hooters if you're interested. There's a place called Iguana Joes or something with a lizard right across the river from Hooters, they specialize in Tequila and have 100's to choose from.

Well, that was about 4-5 years ago anyway. Singapore is tiny and easy to walk anywhere. Have Fun and be safe.

Do not trust taxi drivers.

I wasn't that impressed with Sentosa Island. Boat Quay and Clarke Quay were the happening (expat) places at night. Little India was cool but a bit shady.

Take a tour down the river and also do the night safari at the zoo.

Go to one of the markets and get a fresh coconut drink.

If you are brave try the durian... Just don't take it on the bus.

Shop one of the technology malls.

Try the food. Lots of Indian and Chinese - just keep in mind the Chinese is authentic... Not westernized.

Neat place.

Not much to worry about over here. You'll have to do something pretty stupid to get in trouble with the law.

I see that Bukit Chandu is on your list. Might I suggest the Army Museum of Singapore and maybe the Old Ford Factory where the surrender of Singapore was signed.

While you're at the Army Museum you could drop by the Discovery Centre, but I would have the say there isn't much to see at the Discovery Centre though. The Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute (SAFTI) is within walking distance of the Discovery Centre, there is a very large library regarding military subjects (SAFTI MI Library) that you might want to check out.

I might suggest buying a bottle of water or something before heading to the Zoo or Night Safari, as the prices of food there can be quite high.

Right now is the Chinese New Year period (3 Feb >) so there should be quite a lot of things to see.

The weather over here right now is wet, it has been raining everyday for the past week or so.

When taking a cab ensure that the cab uses the meter, touting is illegal and there are plenty of signs at the airport to remind you.

Beware when buying consumer electronics (ie. digital cameras etc.), as shops here can be rather dishonest to tourists and their own countrymen alike. You'll be safer purchasing from the larger electronic superstores like Courts, Best Denki, Harvey Norman and Challenger.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I assume you live there Raptor. My wife has a temp apt in the Greatworlds apt. I will be arriving there on Friday at 1am. She has got us some tickets to some New Years party. I am really looking forward to it. We are going to take a side trip to Vietnam.
