I used to do repos from time to time working in management for the "Big Green Machine" - Enterprise.

Heck, the stories are some of the most common google hits I get on my blog.

So have you been renting a car and had it repo'd out from under you? Tell us about it.
Why didn't you pay the bill?

Ever been the one doing the repo? How did that go?

Never had one repo'd.

I have had one towed, after the engine seized up. 1999 (?) Dodge Intrepid.

Renting and had it repo-ed?

As in renting, or buying but not paying and having it repoed?

I was in Chicago in 08. I was at the motel, looking out the window b/c I heard a truck idling. It was a tow truck. Dude was looking at the VIN on my rental car. I wanted to say something but the guy drove off. I did see him hooking up the same model KIA a few minutes later but it was a different color...

I did not have thing in the car, the only thing I left in there over night was finger prints. But the guy was not going to just tow my fucking rental.

Never.

But I did have them call once and tell me I had to bring it in because I'd had it too long and it was oil change time.  Got a free upgrade from 'standard' to 'large' (Stratus -> Intrepid, meh, but whatever) on that deal.

How about the time my brother rented a car using a credit card in my name and kept it?
I found out about it when they wanted it back and called me. When I found out it was rented in Georgia I pointed out that I was obviously not in Georgia at the time nor had been for many years. My brother, on the other hand,
was living in Georgia at the time. Coincidentally his number was left as a contact. I told them to call him instead.
He told them I had it and had said I wasn't giving it back.
When it was repo'd they found (26) different sets of ID. Social Security numbers, credit cards, Drivers' licenses, etc.
Oh, and the bench warrant for my arrest on bad check charges and failure to perform the duties of a driver came in the mail about the same time. From Georgia, as well. I owe the Secret Service big time.

Yeah, Couple of years ago

I needed to have some work done on my pickup that was going to leave me without wheels for a week so I rented a car from Avis.

Two days after my truck went into the shop, I came out of a restaurant and a tow truck was hooking it (the rental) up.  When I braced the guy about it,
I found out that the car was reported stolen and was being impounded.  When I called Avis they said, Yes, sorry but we had already sold that car when you rented it.

It took some fast talking with the local PD to not go to jail for driving a stolen car but I managed to show them my rental contract and didn't get arrested.

Needless to say, I was not amused with the car rental folks.  They offered to let me have another rental for the same price but I went elsewhere instead.

Did get a rather nice 'We were idiots' check from them after a session with my lawyer.  But that scared the piss out of me.

Back in '96 we purchased a Saturn that had to have fog lights installed by the dealer so they, a local rental car company, gave us a car while it was in the shop.  It was a Pontiac Sunfire that they provided us.  Anyway my wife drove it to work one night and while on the way home turned left in front of another car.  It was a total loss at that point.  However, the rental car place upon learning of the fate of their car told me I couldn't get another one until I produced a police report.   Well they never gave us another car and the sh*tty thing is they billed me for the whole week even though we only had the car for a few days.  Luckily we did have a second car to use so it all worked out.

But no, I've never kept a rental car longer than I was supposed to.  Wouldn't that be theft at some point?

Not me, but my wife did.  She was hit by a guy that ran a redlight, and the ghetto company that Allstate rented a car from was late on their payments.  The tow truck driver knocked down a pole on my carport which partially collapsed it then drove across my yard leave deep ruts and ran over my mailbox.  Don't trust insurance companies.  Rent your own car from a reputable company instead.z

No, but I sorta repoed one from them once.

I was about 10 minutes late returning a rental car once, and they charged me for the whole day.  So I demanded the keys back, walked outside to where the porter already had all the door  open to clean it out (but was not in the car), got in,   and drove off, watching the porter jumping up and down waving his arms in my rear view mirror.  (the inside people knew I had the car but he didn't)

I parked the car at home and drove it back the next day.  Didn't really have any use for it at that point, my car was back from the shop, but I figured if I was paying they damn well weren't going to have the car to rent to someone else.
