I tried it for 2 weeks and was pretty impressed, but wanted to know if anybody else had tried it.

Yeah same here.  I find that the more closely I keep my diet paleo-oriented, the better off I am.

I hold the Paleo Diet in high esteem but the longest I've been able to follow it diligently was six days and at the end of the sixth day I found myself face-down in a plate at a pizza buffet.     I have a SERIOUS addiction to carbohydrates.

I just finished Robb Wolf's book and I think it's my favorite book on the subject.  Loren Cordain's original book was good but more dry in the writing style.  Mark Sisson's book has the most comprehensive lifestyle plan but Wolf's book has better scientific explanations of why our modern diet is killing/maiming us.

Both Wolf and Sissons have great websites/blogs and each man has a very dedicated group of followers.

I've been doing my best to stick to it over the past year, and I'm still down around 25 lbs from a year ago even though I've been eating terribly lately. But when I stick to it, I feel better and look better.

The longest I was able to do it was 3 months.  Lost over 30 pounds and felt better than at any time in my last 10 years.

But alas, I was like poor Corwin above and fell face first into the pizza.

I'm reading Rob's book right now, and it's really blowing my mind. I lost 8 pounds in 7 days with zero exercise, just from doing Paleo. I never realized how many grains I had been eating. Now that I think about it, it's amazing that I never put two and two together that the USDA (the US Dept. of Agriculture) had produced the Food Pyramid, which advocates very high amounts of grains.

It's always scary to find out the things in your life that you've just accepted and are so evident. Some things are obvious (like eating processed foods), but I've always heard whole grains are the best thing EVER for you.

Was going to type up a response, but this pretty much nails it.

Exercise + Paleo = Feel Great.

I have my BS in Biology, and I'm really digging how deep Rob Wolff goes into the science of it; it makes it a lot more convincing.

I found out a year ago that I am gluten sensitive.

After cutting all gluten-containing food from my diet, I went from 130lbs to 148lbs, and my muscle tone has gone from acceptable to badass, and I feel much more energetic.

Not exactly the same diet, but my conclusion is that grains are not neccesary in the diet... Perhaps even detrimental unless it's all you have to eat.

TR85.

I am more Primal...paleo with high fat dairy added.  I am gluten intolerant and diabetic.  I ended up eating this way out of trial and error and eliminating foods that caused either an allergic reaction or a blood sugar spike.

I am down 60 pounds.

My wife is down about 60 pounds too.

My kids are vibrantly healthy.

Most people think I am crazy then bitch about how they ache all the time or are fat or are sick.  I'd rather bitch about not being able to eat a donut than bitch about the constant gut pain, gas, joint pain, and so on.

The main thing about the lifestyle is that there isn't jack shit to buy for it.  There are no bars or frozen foods, there is not big company pushing products for it, and no multinational ad campaign behind it.  That absence of marketing seems to make people a bit wary I guess.  I eat meat, cheese, and vegetables and little else.  It is not suffering or starving and my life is not wrapped around being miserable anymore.

I get so sick of people complaining of having no energy, always hungry, gas, loose stool, etc... You're right on, man. It really is worth it to have to whine about not eating pizza, but you can train like a BAMF and look like a Greek god.

You're also right on about there being no places that market products for either Paleo or Primal diets. It would be a goldmine, methinks.

I think you're further right about customizing the diet to your own needs. I am not gluten intolerant, but there is definitely a sensitivity there. I can eat cheese, though, and I drink unpasteurized milk (which tastes a lot better than you think).

I don't follow it per say, but I do stick to something sort of similar to it. If I go off it I feel like complete shit.

Hm, maybe I should give it a try. I can't eat wheat anymore anyways so that makes things easier

Yeah it's really very simple. Stick to meat, eggs, non starchy veggies, cheese, and if you want berries stick to darker ones (blueberries, raspberries).

I prefer the diet where I eat sensible portions of whatever I want and work out like a mf'er to stay in shape.

Amen.  Sometimes, I even eat less than sensible portions .

Yes. As long as you eat the fossilized meat that comes with them.

If you don't have gluten sensitivities, this is probably a good option. However, if you cut out the grains, I think you'll be amazed at how much fat you cut and how fast your recovery from workouts is.

Naw, I LIKE some grains.  Eating is one of life's little pleasures...I wouldn't much care to make it a chore.
