I need one for a gift, ww1 or 2 it doesn't really matter, although I think the chances of getting an authentic WW 1 helmet are better because there's not as many fakes out there.

I appreciate any help on this.....

Have you tried Ebay?
That being said, I don't know if I would buy a German helmet online without actually inspecting it first. Far, far too many fakes out there.

These guys look legit

Good luck!

Go to www.atthefront.com. thats where I got my orignal German M42 helmet. The shells were found some where in the old east Germany and ATF retrofitted new suspension assemblies and chinstraps. Im quite happy with my helmet.
