Friend has a 05 highlander V6 4x4 hybrid. Rear brakes and calipers were destroyed, they looked like they never worked and just rusted up.

Put new brakes, rotors, and calipers on the rear. Tried bleeding the brakes and I can not get any pressure at the rear, only a small trickle of fluid. I even took the brake line completely off and had nothing.

Tried with car off, key on, and running. I can see and hear a motor on the ABS block but I have no idea why it would prevent rear pressure.

I'm stumped and iv never run into this before

another good reason not to buy a hybrid.

i was on the honda lot this weekend looking at the new cr-v and ended up looking at the new cr-z hybrid and it's mpg was listed at 34.  my buddy had a 91' cr-x si with the same size 1.5L without the electric motor and it would run 125+ mph and average 36mpg. he could change the brakes without a scan tool

lol

91 CR-X specs
2103 lb curb weight.
92 hp.
EPA estimates were 24/30 city and highway

2016 CRZ Hybrid specs
2685 Curb weight
130 hp
EPA estimates 31/38 (CVT gets better by a significant margin but 91 didn't have CVT so I wont use those numbers).

And lets talk about what you get with that.  For 500 more lbs you get cameras, navigation, automatic ac, more air bags, better handling, TPMS, better headlights, better sound system, ability to sync your phone to the car, power everything, heated mirrors, traction control, cruise control, and I could go on.

Oh, I don't buy 125+.  Just don't.  Car and Driver say 117 in their tests with things like a radar gun.  The speedo lies.
