And by any reason I mean, known issues, crappy trigger, heavy as fuk, light primer strikes, and other shit I should know about.

These have never been on my radar because I typically buy Ruger, my last one (300AAC) I am not entirely happy with, I will leave it there.

Use will be NFA pew pew host, paper punching, undecided on barrel length/caliber, I shoot all popular stuff so it is a non-issue to get one vs. another. Thinking short and 308 but still debating.

So . . . .  tell me hive what I need to know. Thank you.

Hope not. I have two of 'em.

I have the 20 inch. Pretty decent over all.
I bought it used and have about 100 rounds through it.
Haven't really gotten to where I feel comfortable with a bolt gun yet though
Usually a semi guy but liked that it takes AR mags

I have the Thunder Ranch version.  Slapped an Aimpoint on it and it is good to go.  The bolt is a little rough, but it goes bang fine.  Good truck gun.

Edt

By all accounts they are a solid platform and good shooters. The aftermarket for them is picking up momentum. They are not without their detractors. Neither are Ford and Chevy for that matter.

I lov my MVP.308.  It likes the ammo heavy and hot.  I won't be toting it around in the woods, but for sitting some where and reaching out it does pretty well

Because the Ruger PR is better?
They really fucked up.
I wanted a MVP LR in 308 but could never find one.
So I bought a Ruger PR.
And yea I'm running 70-30 on stinkers from Ruger.
70 % goodness and 30% what da fuck.

I've been reasearching them as well and only found the mag wobble causing feeding issues on some. Tromix sells a replacement mag well if you happen to pick one up with the issue and Mossberg won't fix it. Seems like they fixed every one with malfunctions.

ETA Should have mentioned that was 556 if you decide on it.

I found the 308 MVP does not quite live up to the claim of compatibility with 308 AR magazines, they don't quite lock up tightly in the magazine well and wobble side to side, but do feed the action.  Factory Mossberg magazines and M1A magazines fit and work very well.

I have this Patrol Talo version in 308.  The Pmags fit nice and tight.

I've only had it to the range once but i think i'm going to have to go with a different scope.  The eye relief it a little too long with this one

The only problem I had with mine is cheap plastic mags are hard to eject.   Magpul and metal mags are GTG.

They seem pointless to me.  Almost like a solution looking for a problem.  I can't imagine one would shoot any better than a good AR with good ammo.

Must every rifle be an AR pattern rifle?

I got mine because it was inexpensive and used the same mags as my Ruger RPR.  Its a range gun.  Not every gun that goes to the range with me has to be an AR

YMMV

I just picked up a Mossberg mvp patrol with scope. Got it for $500. Haven't shot it yet, but it seems like a decent rifle

5.56 bolt gun that utlizes AR mags. PA doesn't allow semis for hunting. This gun could fill that gap if you have the proper 5.56 ammo and plenty of mags. That's just one reason.

That's a good reason!

My point was why would I want a bolt gun that probably doesnt shoot any more accurate than my semi AR?

Some states make it very hard to possess an AR legally without registering it. . . . . maybe you haven't heard this?

People who live in free states just don't think about such restrictions. It is almost inconceivable.

No gas to the face, no action noise, and will function will 5.56 subs. Awesome suppressor host for those of us with rifle cans.

Thunder ranch edition with the 18" barrel here

Shoots like a laser beam with the 50 Grain Federal varmint gray tips.

Great little rifle

I have a .223 and a .308.  I probably don't have more than about 250 rounds through the both of them, but so far I'm happy with them.

Didn't Mossberg say something like the flash hider is not supposed to be removed, therefore the threaded barrel is almost worthless?

On the ones I handled, the fit and finish just wasn't as good as similarly-priced guns from Ruger or Savage.  And the AR magazine thing just isn't important to me.

Thought about one for a brush/truck gun...picked up a savage scout instead, gonna switch it ti ACIS mags and drop a burris scout 2.75x on it.

That sounds like internet rumors to me.   Take a look at the Patrol and Scout models for example Threaded muzzles and they ship with knurled thread protectors.
