Just wondering... I'm giving more than a little consideration to joining the publishing bandwagon for the various memoirs I've gathered together from my time ranging from my Irish service through the year in Iraq. People that have read my blogs have said I've a good writing style and might do well at it and I've just had an article (Very general level) published in the Irish defense forces magazine.

How the devil does one get one's foot in the door and start that process? This is one industry that I am entirely out of my area of expertese.

My father is a science fiction author, and was published by Del Ray for a long time.  It is a very hard business to get into.  In order to get published by the big publishing houses, you either need to get lucky and have an editer read one of your books and like it enough, or have an agent.

My father runs his own publishing business out of his house, he will make anybody's work into books.  He'll then send you the books and you can do with them as you will.
