I have over the last few years. For one, I've bought so many guns that I've burnt myself out on them. The main reason is that I can't shoot them in my yard, so I have to load them up, go to where ever I can shoot, unload them, clean them, etc. Its a big hassel, especially when you just want to run a mag or two through a 22lr.

I feel your pain brother. I too find this very annoying. That's why I shoot bb guns and bow in my backyard so much. |

I still have a deep affection towards my guns; however, like you, I just can't seem to find the time to get out there and shoot then clean them up.

Nope. The addiction has just gotten worse over the years. It is what it is.

I think this kind of thing is how you can tell the difference between a hobby shooter and a serious one.
Easiest solution: buy another one. I was skimming a local forum the other day and poof! there it was: now I have a Saiga 12 that will eat up months of time shooting, getting to know it, and converting it. |

Sell the guns you don't shoot and use the money to buy a 22LR can. Buckmark + Gemtech Alpine is more fun than anything else I own.
Understandable. At one time I was getting too many guns in different calibers. I got tired of buying ammo for all of them, shooting all of them then cleaning them. I decided to be a "one gun" type of guy. I sold a lot. I only shoot one handgun (a glock 30) which I will focus all my attention on to master it. and one ar15.

I never get sick of it, I could see how you could get sick of it if all you did was plink at the same range, over and over again. From Spring -> Fall I shoot competitive trap and this allows me to travel all over the East coast (and the entire country if I wanted) so I'm always getting to go to new clubs and see new areas due to shooting. I get bored from not shooting enough.
Nope, take of some form of sport shooting because paper punching is boring.

Guns are just one of many hobbies that rise and fall in my level of activity. This time of year I'm more interested in skiing.

Got real bored with uber modern AR and optics. Too easy.
Went back to blackpowder and open sights. Loves me some making smoke with cap&ball guns. |
I have not loost any interest in shooting, however it has been somewhat moved to the back burner for a while, mainly for financial reasons.
Photography (digital!) costs less per shot and is pretty entertaining. Of course, the BCS (black camera syndrome) can be as bad or worse as BRD. |
It goes in and out with different hobbies, when I got into my ATV it got put on the back burner and they switch around all the time. Sometimes I don't feel like dedicating the day to shooting.
Like today some friends asked if I wanted to go with them and I thought about it and 20 min drive each way, unloading guns and showing my friends how to use them, load them back up drive home, spend an hour cleaning. I just chose to sit on the couch and take a nap , but I did just go hunting with my girlfriend yesterday so I'm a bit tired. |

Never lost interest but my interest keeps growing which leads me to being broke.

Yup, they went from being a passion to meh... I have much more interest in things like photography these days. The trek to the range is one of my complaints as well. Someday I might live in the country and I'm sure that will refuel the passion, but an hour and a half round trip plus the hassle of loading and unloading the car and of course the fact that I don't like my neighbors knowing what I'm doing so I can't be lugging tons of rifles out. Usually one or two to be discreet. |

Never had any interest in plinking, which strikes me as a very brain-dead activity, but I do collect guns for their historical value and mechanical quirks.

Most of my pistol time in on my Glock 19 (split with my P228) and most of my rifle time is my M4 or my XCR. |

With the economy in the toilet, an incompetent President, a Congress willing to sell us out for an all expense paid vacation, drug violence escalating to insane proportions just two and a half hours away from my front door, the liberal herd willing to take away my rights because they are panty-wearing pansies... not to mention the fact that it is currently deer season - I have never had a better, stronger relationship with my guns.

Start hunting!! You'll start to enjoy it a lot more. Waterfowl, doves, pig all year round here, pheasants
ETA: what's for sale? |
Downgrade your collection?
Or just take one or two guns to the range. Stop by on your way home from work with just your CCW if you do CC. |
I have pretty much stopped shooting all together. There's no good places to shoot, and I hate cleaning guns. Plus, ammo is so expensive and I have no job.

Go shot a USPSA match (they have a match finder feature on their website) and you might be surprised. What about 3 gun? Or highpower rifle? Or shotgun (trap, skeet, sporting clays) as another poster mentioned? I don't think I would shoot (or reload) near as much as I do if I wasn't competing, shooting paper at a square range gets boring. (I've shot over 6,000 rds of pistol ammo this year and have loaded over 10K rounds/year the last 3 years running) |
I think everyone goes through stages from wild enthusiasm, wanting to be as good as you can be, then building those skills up and maintaining them.
Then cooling off when the zombies don't show up or when you don't become the next grand poo-ba at the range. Then comes a more relaxed and enjoyable past time. I don't think of it as burn out but a matter of putting a priority and perspective on my life. OR maybe I'm just getting old. |
Can't afford ammos and with the new ammunition law here in Ca for 2011, I have no desire to show ID and give a thumbprint every time I go buy a box of ammo.
So, until the law is struck down, I start reloading or I move out of state, I am done with shooting. |

I love that damned gun. Its been though hell and back. No issues. Used to use it as my carry pistol until I discovered the beauty of the single stack 9mm.

It comes and goes. Having an infant and a toddler in the house crowds out just about everything else.
i go up and down, right now it's down since it's winter and cold as hell to shoot outside, but in summer i enjoy golfing and running a lot more than shooting too.
Hell, I own a shooting range and I'm bored to death with guns. Happens, with any hobby I guess. Just tired of the costs, bs, and frankly the fun of shooting isn't enough to justify all of it right now.
I've been "culling" my herd over the last year. More to standardize to one main rifle and pistol type for defensive purposes.
I usually shoot clays year round every weekend, this year not so much but I am dying for the first sporting clays comp.
I could really get into 3 gun if there were any matches even remotely close. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Yep. I don't really have the time to shoot any more and since the boy was born, I'm a little more reluctant to spend anything if I don't have to. I'm getting into bullet casting since that will dramatically cut my costs to shoot. I don't really have anywhere to hunt anymore, so I think that's part of the reason I've lost a lot of interest.
I don't shoot nearly as much anymore.
I don't like to shoot at public ranges with other people, I don't like others range rules and I don't like shooting in timed intervals. I am getting more and more into building stuff, building from parts mostly. I am really, really wanting to get into machining and making guns and parts from raw stock metal. Also I like shooting at home in Montana on my ranch with my friends, and that seems like it a lot of coordination now than it used to. My dream is to turn my back 40 acres into a large range. Pistol, CQB, and carbine on one side with a shoot house sunk into the ground. The other half will be a 600yd range into the side of a mountain. Put in a tower, range stalls, machine/reloading shop and my armory. I look forward to retirement. |
