I knew I should have watched the stream live! It looks like those that used the QR from the stream started receiving their laptops yesterday. Any of y'all get yours?

Would be interested if you could get the OS without having to buy hardware...  How do you get one free?

Same here. I don't really need a traditional OS for what I use my laptop for. This could be interesting.

Man I'll tell you what...

I'd rather spend $200 or $300 on a netbook or notebook than give all that info to Google.

Me too.  How do I know my application was submitted properly?  There was no "application received" page!  I guess I'm already providing improvement feedback to Google.

Interesting.  I could see where something like this would be useful for a company with a large number of field employees employing web based apps in a private cloud.  E.g., a cable or telco installer accessing stuff for provisioning, or a sales force.

I'm curious as to how most people are applying...

I use google Chrome as my browser of choice, 2 days ago when I started chrome I was hit with a link at the top of the screen asking me to join the beta test program. Is this common or unique to me?

What an irritating commercial.  It seemed like half of the 5 minutes was just clips of it being smashed.  At first I thought they were trying to show how it was waterproof from the coffee but now my mind is full of fuck.

like everything else, there's the positives and negatives. since i fly a lot, there's no internet connection especially on those commuter planes and if there is, it's expensive.

They say they have 60,000 available for developers - probably already all allocated out.

I do know that their target market is the developers, so they'll have to weed through the applications and figure out who'd be the best to send the netbook to for their test program.

I applied.  I always love beta testing stuff.   Just hope their OS doesn't blow ass like alot of the past OS's i've tested.

ETA...  i do find it interesting that they partnered with Verizon for 100meg/month free for 2 years on each one.  That's pretty damn cool.  Didn't read that before i filled out the app, so i didn't click the 3g boxen.

In! Filled out an app. I'm NEVER (unless something truly game changing happens) abandoning my iphone, but I'd like to try out google's netbook. I'm not a big fan of how they data mine EVERYTHING, but perhaps there are ways around that.

I have. I haven't seen one that can do anything that I can't do with my iphone.

My iphone is, however, jailbroken and modified all to hell. That is part of the fun, though.

Been playing with Chrome OS in a VM for a few weeks. It is, limited. But for it's intended purpose just fine. Think iPad-ish capabilities but netbook form factor and there you are.

You said unless something truly game changing came along.

It did.  I'd say the game was changed at about a year ago, or when 2.1 came out.

FYI: I didn't write that or say that....but either way, the android didn't change anything for me outside of just making things rather fragmented.

I get tired of all of the Android fanatics on this forum....Yes, I know that the Android is out there and Granted, it is good, but I like my Iphone and I don't feel the need to change that any time soon.  God....you guys remind me of Religious fanatics or Atheist's who want to force their belief on everyone.  Get over yourselves.
