A friend of mine told me about gimp. It's free and probably more than you'll need but it's a pretty good photoshop-esque program.  LINK

Switch to Linux. There is a ton of free programs available for it.  You don't even have to install it.  Just download something like Sam-Linux, copy it to a CD (Live CD it's called) or flash memory stick, and run it from there.  

The more generic your computer, the fewer problems you should have running it.  If it doesn't run, then you haven't lost anything but a little time.  Give it a shot.

(Sam-Linux has GIMP as part of the package.)
