I really don't have any experience with airsoft, but I'm thinking about using it for force on force stuff. Simunitions/UTM stuff seems difficult to impossible to get and awful expensive.

So, I have a couple questions.

#1: Does airsoft hurt?  Do you know you're hit, even through clothes?
#2: How reliable is airsoft?  Does it jam alot?
#3: Are magazine changes "mechanically" similar to real pistols?
#4: Have you tried the airsoft paintballs?  Do they break reliably?

Thanks!

1. Yes, very yes.

2. Depends on the guns you buy, the ammo, the gas (if gas based).

3. Yes

4. No, no clue.

Don't bother with the paintballs, they are troublesome at best.  The guns for the most part are pretty reliable; however its just like anything else in this world... you get what you pay for.

Airsoft paintballs suck. They can break open while they're still inside the gun, and they also tend to not break like they're supposed to when they actually hit a target. Cheap crap.

Well that sucks.  The biggest reason for wanting that is to be able to mark hits and misses.  Do they break in the barrel and stuff?

And we'll say money is no object.  What are the best pistols out there?

ETA:  And pistols that can withstand being dropped and going hands on, etc.

Any opinions on these:  http://www.airsoftstation.com/game-face-verdict-6mm-marking-airsoft-bbs––0-25g––5000-rds––orange.html

They use some kind of powder to mark hits.  They can't break as they have a solid core.

Full facemasks will be worn.  Any paint will not be an issue.

Yeah, the paintballs suck.

Other than that I don't know much about different brands or whatever.

A few years ago I bought a JG MP5SD5 and it was pretty fun and hurt like hell, but that's all the experience I have with airsoft

I've never been able to get airsoft or blowgun paintballs to break reliably on soft(human) targets but they work very well for "temporarily customizing" your friend's shitbox Dodge pickup(with his permission).

Just chiming in for MORE verification.

The airsoft paintballs dont work worth a shit.  If they DO explode then its so small you can hardly tell.

Airsoft does not hurt.  You should be able to feel most hits through normal clothes (not sweatshirts or snow pants).

my kids have airsoft guns.  The beretta pistols they have are pretty good.  They shoot acurrately for up to 100 feet, and hurt/sting when you get hit.

My oldest boy got hit in the leg and drew blood.  The hit was from about 10-15 feet away.

They will puncture cardboard boxes up to 25 feet away,  the kids shoot target practice in thier bedrooms.

I would always wear goggles and protective clothing when battling with them.

Airsoft will put a pretty solid dent in hardwood, or thin sections of metal too.
