I'm just taking up bowling again. I played alot when I was a young teen but only once in the last 10 yrs.
However, I'm think about joining a leaque this year but don't know if I'm that committed yet.
However, I'm going to buy some new bowling shoes any suggestions ?
Also a new ball any suggestion there also ?

So....what's your bowling avg and do you know of any good bowling specific websites ?

My all time best score was 166.

I've got whatever brand shoes Dick's Sporting Goods sells.

I bowl in 2 leagues currently and have an average of 207, best game 300.

I bowled with hammer for a few years and loved them but they seem to die after a few months. So now I am back to Storm.

Buy Dexter shoes unless you are really serious about staying then buy some Linds. Get a ball fitted to you.
180 ave, 256 hi.

Tag for tips etc.

I just started my second season, I finally got the ball a teammate gave me drilled (the span was too big), wow what a difference I rolled a 193 (personal best), 160 and 171. My average was 112 its a handicap league so my first game was a 301 w/ handicap. I have a pair of Dexter shoes which work for me.

Edit for spelling

I love my infrenos. I have and absolute and a total. The absolute works better for me. they are both very forgiving.

bowlingball.com or one of the online retailer for shoes. Dexters are nice.

I took about 10 years off too. my wrist is now all sorts of screwed up. Just started this season not sure how it is going to survive.

201 average .mens league team anchor.

Back in the day I had a nice little curve I put on a 14 lb ball. I'm wondering if I can get that back after working many years cutting meat at a packing house. I never got full blown carpal tunnel but I know that I have lost a lot of flex and strength as I've gotten older. I'm going to throw straight and get the basics down again until my strength builds back up.

I saw a nice pair of Etonics the other day at the pro shop . They were black with some red flames on the side. I thought the were pretty cool lookin' but they were sold when I went back to buy them a couple days later.
The pro said that pair sat on the shelf virtually untouched for two years....league play just started up and boom ..they're gone. He's going to see if that same model is still available.

storm - second dimension is working great for me. I shot a 725 scratch series with it a month ago.

Every one of the 'name' companies make some good balls and some not so good balls. The 'hot' ball the last couple years has been the Roto Grip Cell. It is a very good ball that you can drill and change the coverstock to fit your game. I also really like the original Ebonite 'the one'. Storm has some good stuff out also. If you want to get somewhat serious you need to get 3 balls. A plastic ball for shooting most spares, a good medium oil ball and a heavy oil ball. If you want to get REALLY serious you will need a shit ton of balls. LOL When I go to a tourny I will take at the bare minimum 8 balls.

Also should add that you want to go with at least a 15lb ball. 16lb is better if you can handle it.

The best thing you can do if you have a good pro shop guy is to have him watch you throw some so he can drill some thing to fit your game.

Average in the 200's with multiple 300's for a high.

My dad loves his cell. I haven't picked one up yet. He averages 217 not bad for an old bastard.

You will like the Cell!! I have 2 of them. One with the factory finish and one roughed up for heavy oil conditions.

Bowled for 8 years in my teens before college. Spring, Fall and Summer youth leagues. I still have my original pair of shoes that through some miracle still fit me.

265 high, 160 average. I never did get that whole "consistency" thing down.

If I can get my wrist straightened out I will pick a cell up. Always need a new bowling ball.

For a ball, you will just have to try lots and find what works for your style.

Dexters have a tendency to crack across the middle of sole, but they are good for intermediate usage.

Here!

My Avg. is 187.... and my all time best was 245

Well, so much for my little date w/ the wife. My daughter came down with a flu type illness that has been circulating thru their school. Hopefully not H1N1.
I've even got a sore throat going and not feeling 100%.
So my man child took her place.
I didn't want to over do it the first time out by playing a bunch of games so I went with 2 just to shake the dust off.

1st game I trounced my 16 yr old son 124 to 72. I feeling pretty good about that but knew I was already weakening.
2nd game I faded big time and my son beat me 96 to 94. However, I was trying to work in my old curve with no such luck.

Good thing I only went 2 games because it would of got uglier from there.

So I've got a lot of work to do to get my avg. back up to respectable.
I definetly need to get my own shoes and then a new ball cause the "house" balls suck a big one (that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it)....:)

Used to bowl on a league years ago, maintained a 200 avg.Once bowled 15 strikes in a row(11 in first game and 4 into the next game),unfortunately i spared the first frame of the game so i bowled a 290.I was extremely disappointed as it should have been a 300,closest i ever got to a 300.I want to start back up but my wife who loves to bowl refuses to bowl on a league or with others, same with shooting she loves it but not around others.

Curiosity makes me have to ask....... why if she loves to bowl or shoot will she not do it around other people?

I just think she does not want to be judged if she is not as good.We have mini competitions between ourselves,i guess she is weird about people watching.
