My mother's boyfriend Ben Lyons who fought in the battle of the bulge passed away today.
He held his arms open and and asked Jesus to forgive him for everything he's ever done and passed moments later.
He was a really nice guy. I will miss him.

There is a bright side.  It's 2012, and the war ended in 1945.  That's a pretty sweet run...  My father has been dead for years and was in elementary school during the war.

Not saying it isn't sad.

The Bulge was some badass fighting, whole American divisions overrun and scattered, freezing cold.  I'm glad he had a good life afterwards.

He was suffering and was relieved to finally move on.

He received the Purple Heart and still had a very hard time talking about what happened there.

I used to know quite a few vets from WWII.

Not a single one of them is left.
