I have a BM shorty, I want another .223.

I really like HKs, but they are $$$, so should I buy a HK93, Colt M4 look-a-like, or maybe a 20" colt???

Thanks!!!

I say, if price is an issue, go with another AR.

I looked at it this way.  I will be able to buy an AR15 easily for a long time.  I can get a cheap one in the $500 range and the most sought after prebans run $1600-1800.  You can find an AR15 at juast about any store that deals in semiauto rifles.  How often do you find a HK93 on a shelf, much less at a reasonable price.  I traded 1 and 3/4(not a complete rifle) AR15s for a 93A3.  The AR15s I traded were post-ban.  They were replacable.  I could walk into a local shop and ask to have either of them ordered, and get them for a decent price delivered in a couple of weeks.  I could not walk into any store and ask to have a clean 93 delivered for a decent price.  If you find a 93 for a good price, buy it.  They were a very limited import.  I wish it had a bolt catch, but I can live without it.  AR15s are replacable.  A post-ban AR15 is just as fun and usefull as a pre-ban, you don't have the option of a current production post-ban HK93.

funny i was just looking at my small arms of the world book and drooling over a g41,  and i remember i had an opportunity to get a hk93 a while back.  now i regret not getting the 93 and a rack of mags when they were $30-40 each for a 40 rounder.

if you can spring for the hk at a good price DO IT!

Check out the FAL (http://www.fnfal.com/falfiles/ and the M1A (http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-m1a.shtml).

These are REAL battle rifles.  I own an M1A, and If you want a .308 rifle, I couldn't recommend it more.  A lot of people like FALs too.

Tac-Girl,

Let me make a minor assumption--you are in a state that allows AR's or HK's (not California).

Do you have any possibility (or desire) of getting a full auto in the future (assuming your state allows it)?

Let's say you do.

That would be the main reason to buy an HK over an AR.  With a registered HK sear, you can have a full auto gun in several configurations (or even several calibers if you move it from gun to gun).  An AR's mags are about 1/3 to 1/4 the price of an HK's.  I like the idea of keeping all one type of mag in a given caliber (keeps things simple).  The HK is also relatively heavy for a .223 gun.

One other possibility you forgot to mention is an FNC.  Caliber .223, most of them are folding stock versions, works extremely well, and there are auto-sear's available.  It also takes AR-15/M-16 Mags.

FNC $2000
HK 93 $2000
AR (pre-ban) $1000-1200

Autosears
FNC $1600
HK  $4000
AR (DIAS) $4000

Makes the FNC the best deal in a conversion gun.

FNC:

Of course, you can do this with the HK and sear:

The conversion to an HK 53 will cost about $1000.

Stay with the AR design and parts. It's the weapon of the next revolution, resistance, whatever.[BD]

HK-93 is an excellent weapon, if not 'over-engineered' for what it does.

When you have so many ARs that you don't know what to do with them all, THEN you get the HK-93!

FAL if you want a .308

Another .223? Try a Robinson Armaments M96.

What you really need is a Critter_fr. They're inexpensive, easy to maintain, reliable as all hell, and a ton of fun, especially after the sun goes down....

CritterFR, although I don't know this for a fact, somehow I suspect that TACGIRL has the "after the sun goes down" department taken care of. I mean, what sane female would troll for dates on this board? By her previous posts, she sounds OK, so why not give her a serious answer? BTW, don't they have any girls in your town that will go out with you? [;)]

I would sell all I had for an HK-93.
An AR everybody has.
Be an Original, go for the HK.
