Anonymous, the shady-yet-principled hacktivist group that has previously hacked into Iran's government emails, the Pentagon, possibly the IMF, News Corp, Anders Breivik's Twitter account, and much more, has a new target in its crosshairs: Facebook. The hackers have set the date for Facebook's demise as November 5, 2011. The reason? Ironically, they're worried about privacy. Full text of their press release after the jump.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

Cost me my entire football forum. Had a happy, active place then one of my main admins started using FB, next thing you know, we're drained because every one decided that rambling, babbling place was the best new 'in' thing. It's killed some great forums out there. ARFcom seems to be one of the immune ones(Thank God) as far as forums go. I've had friends that just disappeared without a fucking goodbye after hanging together, going to games together, bbqing, etc for 10+ years... just suddenly 'find me on FB'. No thanks, I don't want to hear every fucking thing someone did, how any times they wiped, all that. Cat herding makes more sense.

I'm not going there and exposing my entire life just to keep up with people that will flood to the next trendy thing that comes along. Let FB go down like many other forums that it caused to die.

In the old days you would spoof the sorce ip, and send an icmp request with a ttl of 0.    Now they send distributed spoofed html get requests to overload the web and sql servers.

The jist is they send a bunch of requests to Facebook until their servers can't handle them anymore, and everything comes grinding to a halt.

That's right "FUCK FACEBOOK".  Facebook ruins lives, it destroys friendships, it destroys marriages, the only people that should have a Facebook page are the police and the government.. It is way to dangerous for the average person to have.  We can no longer let people get on line and share thoughts and ideas.  No good will come of people having a thing like that.  Ban social networking.  Do it for the children.  I don't know how anyone could think of allowing social networking into their homes.  I think doctors should ask parents if they have social networking in their homes.

BAN SOCIAL NETWORKING FOR THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look anyone that doesn't get it, that's cool. But think how would you react if ARFcom emptied out to FB... would you follow the crowd? This is what happened. I spent a lot of time and money to produce a quality forum for people to gather and now it's dead. I'm being a damn jerk about it because I just shut the place down.

Think whatever you want because we're relatively safe on this forum, go talk to other forum owners that have lost theirs and you'll hear a similar story. I'm guessing the ones giving me shit about FB are FB users, I can live with that. Try doing there what you can do here. You can't.

The fact that you threw your hard earned cash into a medium that is, arguably, reaching the end of it's life cycle isn't the fault of Facebook. I have a Facebook account but I would hardly call me a "user." I probably spend a total of 1 hour a month actually on the site and I've probaly posted to it less than a dozen times in the 3 or 4 years since I opened the account. My wedding, birth of my child, new car purchase .... stuff like that.

I honestly can't think of anything I can do here that couldn't be accomplished on facebook, even with my passing familiarity with the site.

For someone who complains about having to hear every fucking thing someone else did .... have you ever read that forum call AR15.com? They have several sub forums when people post a LOT of inane details of their existence. I don't find it off-putting but, it sounds like you might. You probably shouldn't go there.
