In November of 2010, President Obama signed an executive order allowing Amtrak to carry firearms as checked baggage on all their trains. While the airlines have been offering this service for years, apparently Amtrak was not allowed to offer a similar service. Thereafter, a new baggage cart showed up at the Fullerton Train Station around Thanksgiving of 2010. According to the station employees, the new cart has a lockable cabinet and is to be used to store and transport any firearm(s) that they receive as checked baggage. Suffice it to say, this very grand and expensive looking cart has not moved since it was delivered in November. Consequently, it seems that those persons who bring guns onto Amtrak trains would prefer to keep them in their immediate possession, rather than go through the inconvenience of checking them. Please note: The photographer is not an Amtrak employee, but had permission to be on the sidewalk in back of the station and this photo is compliment with Amtrak's current photo policy.
