How much ammo does everyone keep on hand for a SHTF sceniro?
I keep about 2000 rounds on hand and reload what I use up to stay at that amount. Just wondering what everyone else does. |
I keep at least 1K of each caliber I own. Not been keeping to that lately.
I've got about 3k of Santa Barabara, about 1500 Q3131a, a couple hundred varmint loads in .223, about 1300 rounds for the .40, and about 800 .308, and for fun, have over a thousand each of .22 lr and .22 WMR. Also have about 1300 rounds of various 7.62X39, but hopefully that will all be going away with my crap mini 30.
I think I need to call the AmmoMan and get some more! |
I keep the following:
850 rounds of Lake City M193 loaded on strippers. Anywhere between 500 to 1000 rounds of a mix of IMI M193 and Winchester Q3131A all in boxes Five 30 round magazines loaded with 20 rounds of Q3131A Two 12 round mags of .40 SW for my SIG229 loaded with Federal Hydrashock. (9 rounds per mag) Additional 150 rounds of .40 SW Federal 180 grain FMJ. One box of Remington Match ammo in .308 for my 700 LTR (haven't been able to fire it yet - no scope and no mounts/rings). A box of .357Mag for the Python 2 boxes of Federal .45ACP for the Colt Series 70. |
Asking for yourself or the ATF?
30k plus. About 1/2 of which is .22lr (good barter) [:)] [sniper] [frag] [:)] [heavy] |
I have 1k or so of .223, around 2k of .22lr, around 1k of .45acp (for pin match's), around 500 rds of 9mm, and a ton of assorted hunting ammo .308, 7mm mag, 30-06, .44mag, .270, 30-30, and ect. I keep a bunch of ammo around. It pisses off my wife too! [:D]

At least 1000 of each rifle caliber.
And just so I remember right where it's at, I store it next to my open cans of varnish and paint thinner, which are right next to my 1950's vintage water heater in the garage. |
I keep one bullet in my left shirt pocket at all times. I am ready, let her go boys.
2 cases of malay .223, 2 cases for the SKS (and the MAK which I just unloaded). Plenty of components for the VLS .308 and VS 22-250.
Won't have to get practice ammo for awhile. |
I'm not boasting, but I put you all to shame. I keep LOT's on hand!
Not enough!!! [:(]
I'm out of .223, have 200 rds for M1 and '03A3 and 200 rds .303 Brit. for No.4MK1. I'll just have to strike early and use their ammo. [:D] |
fight4yourrights, I agree. 22lr is great barter material. And my Ciener conversion just begs to be shot... I buy Federal Classic by the case, about 12k inhouse right now, 4200 rounds of 9mm and not quite 3400 rounds for my pretty black rifles... it's never enough. I buy it, I shoot it. I'm trying for a stockpile of 10k for the centerfire weapons, replacing what I shoot weekly. Haven't made it yet...
Darryl edited cause I can't type... doh! |
so far, 4k rds of M193(1k of which is "war reserve"), 2k rds of .22LR (WTF, it's cheap), and down to 650rds for pistol. That covers all my guns. .22 is a Ruger 10/22 RBI.

3000 - .223, 1500 - 22lr, 100 - .44 mag, and 50 - 12 gauge 00 buckshot. This thread ought to keep the BATF occupied.

I will never have enough to be happy. I know that now. I just keep loading and shooting and then loading some more. I think the new currency will be ammo! Hold Hard[/blue] |
Why spend all that money for ammo. Won't more be available after "IT" goes down? Ok maybe I will still keep a couple of cases of everything...
About 1500 rounds, but 2000 or 3000 seems about right.[heavy]
You will never have enough ammo. Without ammo your firearm is just a heavy stick. Firearms without ammo is like fish without water!! ------------------- Adaptability is the key to survival!! |

There's something to be said about people aflicted with the "SHTF Scenario" syndrome. For some, it is merely an overreaction to Hollywood's Mad Max Theory and the Conspiracy Theory. (There's a Mel Gibson reference in there somewhere.) The intensity of the disorder can be measured not so much by the volume of ammunition and number of guns kept handy, as by the number of "ready" guns and amount of "ready" ammo, and the willingness to share the information with others.
For 99.99999999999% of us, the shi# will never hit the fan, but about 20 to 30% will experience different levels of being in shi#. Those levels can be expressed as follows, but may vary from person to person: "Ah Shi#!" - You have encountered a situation where use of deadly force will likely be or is required, if such a tool is in your possession. If firearms are involved, an exchange of fire can occur. "Holy Shi#!" - You have just fired the last round from your first magazine and the situation hasn't resolved itself. Reloading under fire is difficult at best. "Deep Shi#!!!" - You have just fired the last round of your LAST magazine and it still ain't over yet. If you haven't disengaged and headed for the hills by this time you may consider yourself in "Deeper Than Whale Shi# at the Bottom of the Marianas Trench." That is as deep as it gets, folkes. What do I keep handy for emergencies? I'm not telling. I want it to be an unpleasant surprise. |

Gee, I don't really know. Several thousand .223 of course. I have 2 cases of 9mm and 1500 rd of .45 under my desk but there is more stashed under my bed.
Some .22, .32, .38, .357, .40, .243, .308, 20 ga, 12 ga. If my house catches fire I recommend staying well back. |
Ammo's too dagerous to have laying around these days.
Because of my strong anti-ammo belief, I am only allowed to have [u]snap caps.[/u][;)] |
You can never have too much stored water, food, TP, or ammo.
Here's a question: how many of you have all your ammo in one general location (i.e., in your house)? The smart gopher has caches of nuts in many locations, so that he can resupply if his primary residence becomes unavailable... -Troy |
Remeber, when they come for your guns, give them the ammo first.
Having enough ammo is like having enough money. Even Bill Gates doesn't have enough money. I'll NEVER have enough ammo. [uzi] |
Well my first thought is you are a frickin mole [pistol]
Know what? Thats my second thought as well. NYFB |
I have like 40 rounds of .22lr and 20 rounds of .38 on hand.
