This the same show where they "capture" the hogs for the cameras? I'd bet a week salary that when the cams go off the rifles come out.

Good show so far.
Just kinda pissed off they keep putting subtitles on the screen. It aint that thick of a drawl.

And now we're into the manufactured drama that reality T.V. demands....

"Gotta spend money to make money". The dialog wasn't stilted until that meeting.

How was it? I know a few people who were on the show, but I didn't watch it because of the world series.

No it doesn't. I live in the same town as the Campbells and know a few guys who are supposedly going to be on the show later in the season.

Not a bad show. At least they hunted and didn't fight with each other like in most other reality shows. Rooster the one eyed dog looks like a good dog to have around.

yeah, he went and found himself a quiet corner in the pen and died the way old dogs do. the old man said he was gonna have himself a helluva pack of dogs when he got to heaven.

these are the best folks i have ever seen on ANY of these "reality" shows, near as i can remember. as cited above, there were a couple of kinda forced drama dialogue but everything else seems "real".

I had just been sitting there wondering why they didn't shoot the hogs, when he said that.

That's a good thing they're doing.

I'm afraid the producers are going to demand more manufactured drama between the family members in the tone of the American Chopper idiots. If you look, during monologues Paul Jr. and Corey from Pawn Stars sound exactly the same. A couple of the monologues from the son last night sounded like they were all the same person.

It's a VERY minor gripe, though. This is worth watching, so far. Oh, and 90 degrees at 0530? Damn, you Texans are gluttons for punishment! Pitch dark and they're sweating like.... Well, you know.
Link Posted: 10/20/2011 5:16:17 AM EDT
Just out of curiosity: aren't they going about the whole hog trapping thing wrong. I was watching the show and started doing the math on effort expended to catch one hog vs. the typical number of hogs present in an "infestation". Sure seems like a lot of effort to get one hog! I know lots of guys that simply shoot on sight, dispatching dozens in an evening. You can easily have a hundred hogs infesting a tract of land. Shoot on sight seems the way to go.

Other item of note: if you are not on private property, last time I checked open carry was a no-no. Sure looked like they were OCing as they went to the various locations. Did see some pretty poor gun-handling throughout.

Other than that - pretty entertaining.
Link Posted: 10/20/2011 5:46:58 AM EDT
As mentioned above, they keep them alive as long as possible, because they send many of them off to be processed for feeding the needy. It would be very difficult to keep the meat fresh in that heat, if they killed the hogs right away. They're working harder, and costing themselves money (transportation, time, etc.) to help others.

You can't get rid of all of the hogs. Shooting hogs is one of the least effective ways of getting rid of them. Running them with dogs is one of the most effective since it will run them off the property to somewhere else. The most effective way of eliminating them is trapping or helicopters but it's more expensive and time consuming than any of the other methods.

Watched both episodes. Hell of a lot better than any other "reality" TV on right now.

I doubt that old boy is the type to go along with fake TV drama. I imagine he calls 'em like he sees 'em.

It is now set on DVR for me!

That, and trapping makes for some pretty boring-ass TV.

I know this is a shot in the dark but the blonde gal was wearing a pair of cowboy boots in the junkyard episode that I wanted to see if anyone knew what brand they were. The wife saw them and liked them but I don't know where to find them. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's fun as hell to do, especially when you're selling what you catch for cash, but yeah pretty boring to watch after you've seen a couple unless you catch a monster or you get an escapee.
