Just got done building my first 80% 1911 and turned out really nice. Had a buddy who wanted to do one so he ordered the frame and slide. They arrived and the frame was completely finished and had a serial number! No paperwork, nothing just a complete frame! Am I crazy or did the company do a major fuck up?

I thought this thread would have something to do with a teenage girl.

I'd be feeling like it was a setup and call for a return label and replacement.
|
|
Well it came new from the company, so it isn't stolen or used in a crime.
Time to go to the range. |

View Quote The company did fuck up ... unless your buddy is screwing with you, and actually received it through an FFL, because his idea of "building" a 1911 is just assembling the parts. |
|
The company done goofed, spectacularly.
I wonder when (if?) they'll notice that S/N missing; the ATF wouldn't look favorably upon that. Your end should be fine. Mailing it complete is illegal (shouldn't be), not receiving it. |
|
So basically they sent him a completed firearm through the mail with no FFL's on either side.
Sounds like a crime. |
|
He unpacked it right in front of me, the slide needs some fitting but the rails are cut, holes are drilled, everything is ready to go. Man that's crazy, I wonder how many time this has happend from that company

I was under the impression that 1911 parts required so much hand fitting, a complete frame was an 80%.

I would think hes not at fault for anything, the company on the other hand...
|
|
|
I'd call them up and offer to send it back so they don't get screwed by the ATF. Who knows, they might even send you a free 80%.
|
|
I was doing a dealer to dealer transfer. They sent the firearm to my house.
I took it to my dealer to properly transfer the firearm. |
|
Have him take it to his ffl, do a form 4473, pay the $10 for background and he should be covered.
Not his fault they shipped it to him like that, but if he doesn't do the transfer he may leave himself open to interpretation by the man. |
|
Ill tell him to call them up and see how they handle it. Its up to him though, he might just say fuck it and hit the range, hes that kinda guy...

Curious, is the law against the purchasing of a firearm without an FFL, or the sale of one. After the fact, I do not think there is any Federsl law about owning a firearm not purchased from an FFL-state laws possibly. Of course there is a law against manufacture for sale without a license, but again is there a law against owning a gun not manufactured with a license? Isn't that the purpose of the whole 80% issue?

I... uh... know a guy (yeah, let's go with that), that back about 10 years ago bought a pistol from another state on a gun auction site.
He sent the seller payment and his FFL's license copy... and a few days later the gun got delivered. To his home address. ![]() Shit happens. |

I would let them know. They could report it stolen to law enforcement to cover thier butts with the ATF

So he just got off the phone with the company, hes going to ship it back and they are sending him the correct frame and a free barrel. Not a bad trade I guess, the guys voice on the other end went up another octave I'm pretty sure when we described it to him

How does filing a false report cover their butts? I would call the company and tell them what happened and to rectify it you were going to bring it to your local FFL to complete the 4463. There would be no additional exchange of money with the company. I suspect they would be glad to complete the transaction this way once they realize you know how badly they F'd up and that you could either handle it this way or go through other official channels to correct it. ![]() View Quote It might be thought that an employee took it or another person if they have no idea what happened to a missing serilized item |

Wonder if they sent your buddy a frame that was returned to them?
Someone else started it, F'd it up, serialized it, then sent it back and the company didn't check? |

I ordered some .357 SIG ammo from Sig and received a 516 complete upper

All I ever got was some CLP. Ordered one can, and a case of 12 showed up.
