I am planning on going to the range this weekend as I do most weekends, however it dawned on me that I should knock out two birds with one stone. The range I go to is over an hour away and I plan on going for a nice Sunday motorcycle ride with an AR strapped to my back in a padded rifle case with backpack straps. I will also be carrying a few hundred rnds of ammo.

Is this legal? I have my CCW for the state of Florida, I don't plan on speeding or doing other Jackassery. Just a nice Sunday cruise to the range.

Am I asking for trouble?

Break it down and put it in a backpack to be discreet.

I've done that more than I can count here in VA.  Never had an issue.

If it's in a case, I don't see it being a problem.  I live in Indiana though.

In a soft case like a Drago bag is fine. You can open carry it to the range openly slung on your back if you want to, that is legal.

Unfortunately, not all of the cops are aware of the law so, you may have to take a ride either way you go. It will be obvious that you have a rifle, either in a soft case or openly carried on a bike. If you break it down and put it in a bag not traditionally used for rifles, it will be a whole lot less obvious and still legal with a CWP.

If you have to ask...

You have absolutely nothing to worry about since it is perfectly legal. I live in FL too and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Leo's here know the law and all its ramifications just as well as LEOs through the rest of the U.S.

(That was sarcasm).

Do It.
Sling your rifle, mount up and post pics.

Bonus points for shoulder holstered sidearm, over plate carrier.

I would not expect hassles, honestly.

Zipped up in a case = perfectly legal in Florida.
