Isn't defending your home in a state emergency like a hurricane completely legal in FL? Fellow Floridians, please help us with this?

No idea. I do remember pictures from Hurricane Andrew of people with signs saying "looters will be shot" and the cops didn't blink an eye.

Not me! I'd approach it the same way though! Looters, in my book, go hand in hand with Islamofascists!

Funny, a famous photo from Andrew was a guy holding a revolver protecting his home. In FL. I believe you of course, but rules do change in disasters.

Actually, open carry at one's home (which includes the connected yard) is lawful in Florida.

Section 790.25(3) LAWFUL USES.--The provisions of ss. 790.053 [prohibiting open carry] and 790.06 [prohibiting unlicensed concealed carry] do not apply in the following instances, and, despite such sections, it is lawful for the following persons to own, possess, and lawfully use firearms and other weapons, ammunition, and supplies for lawful purposes:

(n) A person possessing arms at his or her home or place of business;
