My grandmother lived in a house that was so old it was actually built before wisconsin became a state. It was originally a shack that was built into a large two story home over the years. Grandma was in her 90s at the time and lived alone since grandpa had passed a decade prior, but she was still rather independent for her age. One night after several hours of driving I decided to stay and get some rest. I went to bed upstairs in the old house.

I woke up a short while later to some noise downstairs. At first I thought it sounded like a clothes dryer. But grandma wasn't mobile enough to do laundry alone and she sure wasn't doing it at 1am. As I listened closer I realized it was footsteps. I went downstairs to check it out and I saw nothing. Doors were still locked. Only noise I could hear was my grandma talking in her sleep while I was checking things out. I was a little weirded out because my grandpa used to pace in the kitchen, so much so that the tile was worn down and you could see where he used to walk. I was pretty tired from a night of driving, I convinced myself I must have dreamt the sound up. I went upstairs and crawled back into bed.

A short while later I woke up again. This time I heard noise from the stairs, which could be seen from the bed I was in. I rolled over to look and saw a little girl at the top of the stairs. As soon as our eyes connected she turned and ran downstairs.

At this point I feel like I'm losing my mind. I get up and head downstairs to the living room. My sister lived close by and spent alot of time at this house helping our grandma. I gave her a call and explained what I thought I heard and saw.

Then she told me something I never knew. I had an aunt that died at that house when she was only 5 years old due to a bad fever over 60 years ago. No one in my family had ever brought it up to me. She said some nights when she stayed there she could hear grandma talking to a child in her sleep.

That was the last night I spent there as my grandma passed away shortly after and the house was sold off.

Nope, couldn't make out anything. Definitely the weirdest experience I've ever encountered.
