I just got this from bear@bradycampaign.org. I do not remember seeing it on ARFCOM so I though I would post it. I think we may need to make some calls of our own. I love getting shit from the other side.

There are reports that the Republican leadership is trying to put language in the omnibus appropriations bill that would undermine the ATF's ability to enforce the nation's gun laws. The language is from the so-called Tiahrt amendment that NRA allies have been pushing.

Please call the Republican leadership and tell them that you do not want the Tiahrt amendment in the omnibus appropriations bill.

It is particularly important to call the Republicans with responsibility for the Commerce, Justice and State appropriations bill:

Rep. Frank Wolf (VA) 202-225-5136
Senator Judd Gregg (NH) 202-224-3324

It is also important to call the Chairmen of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees:

Rep. Bill Young (FL) 202-225-5961
Senator Ted Stevens (AK) 202-224-3004

And also the Republican leadership of the House and Senate:

Speaker Dennis Hastert (IL) 202-225-2976
Majority Leader Bill Frist (TN) 202-224-3344

I'd really like to hear how the ATF is being weakened. Are they going to have to hold bake-sales to fund thier raids now?

Hurry - stop this. Somebody might be exercising their constitutional rights. Oh, the horror...the humanity!

Luckystiff, you need to tell what it is about. We do know that if comes from HCI it is bad. I contacted my congress criters two weeks ago to make sure they supported this action. I just track the numbers of the bill after I read them. Can't keep track of which one this, I think it is the one that shortens the time limit that the ATF can hold on to your back ground check paper work after you make a buy,it is cost to much $$ to file these papers and store them.

I believe this removes the "storefront requirement" crap from the FFL requirements, going back to the days before Clinton where you could easily become a "kitchen table gun dealer". Sounds like it passed the House, now for the hurdle of the Senate. Oh man would it be great to be able to get an FFL, missed the boat earlier before you had to jump through a zillion hoops if you didn't have a real storefront... Of course the price of getting an FFL is unchanged by this I think, so it's still a couple hundred for a few years right?

Oh man, this would be great if we can get it passed!
