I own the electric one, and it is so much fun.
It holds about 70 rds in the mag. Has select fire, and there are high performance parts you can add to them. I guess I get about 5 mags out of it before I have to change batteries, but mine are old out of rc cars.
It is the vietnam style m-16 with the triangle shaped hand guards. The guards come off, and the butt plate that holds the clean kit in a real one holds the battery in this one. The triger guard will open for gloved hands, and the sights are adjustable. sort of. Elevation not windage.
The do not break open though. The ejection port cover will close, and will open on the first shot. The charging handle can be pulled back, but doesn't do anything.

I sell airsoft guns...ONLY go with TM AEG's or Airsoft Elite MP5's, which are based on the TM design, and in almost all respects, are better than TM.  The people at the Buffalo Range shoot saw all of my airsoft equiptment, and EVERYONE thought they were awesome.  Personally, I have been into airsoft for about 4 years now, and have sold everything paintball-related.

I still don't get it. Why would anyone older than 12 want one? Enlighten me. I could probably buy a milled AK for the price of some of those. I certainly could buy a SAR-1 for those prices.

Get the battery power verison.  It is the only full auto pea shooter without a tax stamp.

Yeah, you make a point. But they are more fun than standard paintball guns, which can actually cost more than airsoft.

The only "practical" reason to own one is this. You can do CBQ type training against live opponents and practice home sweeps against live intruders also armed with airsoft. Doing the same thing in your house with paintaball would be unwise.

Other than that they are just toys for big kids who didn't have crap this cool when they were a kid. Some nights I sit out back with a bunch of soda cans on the fence and just amuse myself.

I already had a full sized MP5 which I use for "training" against my buddies. I ended up with the 3 MP5K PDWs on a bad deal and I'm just trying to get out from under them.

What sucks is the 18 rule.

Now I'm 19 so that doesn't matter, but since these are just toys that shoot 6mm pieces of Plastic I don't see why they don't let kids have them. I used a spring-powered one when I was 7. We used to shoot at each other for fun. They were kinda cool at that age. AT close range they still sting though, but don't cause any harm.

I was just checking around the net at Airsoft related sites, most places are selling the Tokyo Marui HKMP5K-PDW at around $250, sometimes less. Are there several grades of these? I'm not trying to flame your price, just thinking there may be good ones and better ones? I'm totally unknowledgeable about the Airsoft stuff.

Well, the reason it is fun, is because we use airsoft in the SAME manner as paintball.  It has the realism of incredible replica's, and you can use ALL of your firearm gear with it.  Eagle vests, holsters, everything.  Its like paintball for people who desire realism, and who dont like running around in purple spandex and plumbing nightmares.

Dont joke about these guns, my M4A1 is currently shooting 450 FPS at about 950 shots a minute.  Amazing what a PDI 190 wiht systema internals and a 10.8v'er will do.  

It really is one of the most fun things to do.

Oh, and to defend Steyr, most places selling them for 250 are in Hong Kong.  After spending 80 bucks on shipping and stuff, you can see how the price goes up, plus he includes some accessories.

My MP5's are goin for 425, come in the A4 and SD6 versions, have FULL metal bodies (except for the lower, which is polymer) and come with upgraded gearboxes, metal bushings, and PDI 170% springs.  In other words, they shoot about 350 FPS at about 930 shots a minute with a 9.6v'er, which these are equipt to use.

They are TM's with AE metal parts and ICS boxes.

In other words, a damn good deal.  Again, sorry for the plug :-(

My only problem is paying $750 for an airsoft when I could buy the real thing for $800 - 900. Then again the Beretta 92s, MAC-11s, and Uzis are relatively well priced.

Oh, heres a tip on buying GBB's (the ones that function exactly like real pistols)  KSC, Western Arms (WA), Tanaka (if you are good with valves), Tokyo Marui, Maruzen, KWJ.

I think I got em all.  Stay away from KWC, unless you get one of their *heavyweights*.  Those arent bad at all.

And second, mine are complete including the battery, AC charger, etc. Many sell gun only - stripped. Also mine seem to have somehow escaped the blaze orange tip regulation, they are all black and not just repainted. In fact the barrel is actually a threaded 3 lug barrel w/ thread protector.

BTW I'm no airsoft expert either. Surfing the airsoft sites I've seen the exact same package gor for $525.00-550.00 on average. I got them at dealer and am selling them for the same. Order 2 or more and I'll even take a small loss.

I frequent Japan quite a bit and have a good friend in Tachikawa, Tokyo who is very much involved in airsoft and serves as an airsoft adviser. In Japan Tokyo Marui HK MP5-PDW's are ALWAYS in the $150-$190 range. TM M4 usually in the high $100's to low $200's. This is for a standard/non-upgraded gun. Many times prices do not include battery (~$20-$35), charger (standard slow charger=~$10). bb's are way cheap at 1,000 Yen (~$10) for ~3,000 rounds of .20 gram bb's, or 2,500 rounds of .23 g (what I use). Use .2g if you buy a non-upgraded AEG. Heavier weight bb's with increased velocity.

With a myriad of upgrades, things can get expensive. i.e. my most expensive airsoft is a Killer Studio (well known custom shop in Tokyo that ony deals with customized airsoft guns) upgraded Steyr AUG which cost me just under $1,100 with EMS shipping ($80) from Japan.

BTW,

You can easily remove the orange painted tip by dipping in finger nail polish remover with no damage to original finish.

After a little more checking around, you're right (not that I doubted you!) about the batteries and chargers not being included. The prices I saw were on eBay and at airsoftdepot.com. Like I said, I am a total Airsoft newbie. I think I'll stay away for now - I just know that I would have to have all the best upgrades, etc ($$$$). I can see how it could get really expensive really fast!!  Nice toys though...

Yeah prices in Japan ROCK.  Too bad only one store from japan will actually ship to the US.  There prices are better than the Hong Kong overseas retailers, but still not as good as Japan street prices.  Of course, they want to make a profit.  Steyr's prices are nothing unusual.  Infact, for the package, not a bad deal.  Being in the business myself, I wouldnt buy it, but for a typical US deal, its right on target, and actually, at the low end price wise.  If I didnt get dealer discounts, I'd prolly buy one too :-)

Airsoft really is a ton of fun, I love getting people into it, which is why Im selling my guns with no profit margin.  And my guns as well, are orange free ;-)

Being able to use my M4A1 in *no disrespect meant towards people who have been in combat* a "combat" situation is actually alot of fun.  You almost forget that they are airsoft guns, and you fight like you want to live to see tomorrow, and you get the biggest rush adrenaline possible.  Paintball just never had the same effect on me, jumpsuits and tubes just dont cut it.  Airsoft does, its really amazing.

I would love to show all of you guys what these things are capable in person, but unfortunently, I can't do that.  And to be honest, 90% of the guys I skirmish with are in the 20-30 year old range.  Airsoft isnt only for the kiddies...

     Hey all, My name is Scott and I am fairly new to these forums. I am
     however a veteran airsoft player, and when I ran a seach for airsoft, I
     found that some here know about it, own some, or are curious about them.
     Please note I am not a retailer, I am just trying to help you all out by
     clearing a few clouds.
     Airsoft rundown- Airsoft originated in Japan back in the 80's due to
     restrictions on guns in Japan. The result is VERY realistic replicas that
     often times cannot be distinguished from their "real steel" counterparts,
     until the trigger is pulled.
     AEG's (automatic electric guns)- these are airsoft guns which use a
     battery to power a motor, which turns 3 gears, which draws back a piston
     and lets it go, letting the air gathered in the cyliner expel a 6mm
     plastic projectile forward, at apx 285 fps (of course, this is for a stock
     gun) and at a fully automatic rate of fire, from 700-1000+ rounds per
     minute. However, costly modifications and the addition of a systema
     (aftermarket company) or PDI (aftermarket company) main spring such as the
     M160 or 300% spring can make these guns shoot at 500-550 fps, yet many
     airsofters feel that 450 fps is the maximum acceptable velocity. The main
     manufacturers of AEG's are Tokyo Marui (which is favored), TOP, and the
     recent additions of Airsoft Elite and Classic Army. Older manufacturers
     are Toytec, JAC, and a few others, whom no longer manufacture guns. Here
     is a list of the Tokyo Marui AEG's
     M-16 series: A1, A2, VN model, CAR 15, XM177E2, M4A1/RIS model, SR-16
     MP5 Series- A4, A5, SD5, SD6, K, PDW
     G3 Series- A3, A4, SG-1, MC51, PSG1**semi auto only
     Others- M1A1, SIG 550/551, FAMAS F1/SV, Steyr AUG military/civlian,
     AK47/s, UZI
     Other Manufacturers of AEG's make guns such as; 4 versions of the M-60,
     MP5 series, M134 vulcan.
     New guns to be released- FN P90, FN M249

Please note that the airsoft Vulcan does infact fire at 6000 rounds per
     MINUTE, and there is only one known owner in the US
     AEG accessories/upgrades. Upgrades are a pain to talk about so I'll make
     it short. Unless you upgrade all the internals, your gun will not be as
     reliable/durable as it was stock. Of course, I am talking about if you
     "upgrade" the parts that affect velcocity, such as the main spring.
     Upgrading the spring and doing nothing else has the potential to kill your
     gun. Basically, what I am saying is dont buy one of these and put in the
     biggest spring available. IF your gun can even fire with it in, the first
     few shots will crack open your whole gun***
     Systema and PDI are the 2 main upgrade part manufacturers. Of course,
     accessories for your AEG's can be found at most gunstores like scopes,
     lasers, carry handles (I have a bushmaster carry handle on my M4) and
     stuff like that. Specialty airsoft parts such as the tracer unit
     (explained below) autoloaders, and suppressors can be had at most airsoft
     retailers.
     GBB (gas blow-back): These guns are powered by HFC134a (1,1,1,2
     tetrafluoroethane), or HFC22 chlorodifuloromethane with silicon additive
     for lubrication purposes, the latter being a stronger gas. GBB's are the
     most fun to shoot, and the most common form of GBB's is in the automatic
     pistol form. These guns work EXACTLY like real steel pistols. (gas and
     BB's placed in real size magazine, loaded into gun in the handle, slide
     racked, gas pushes BB forward, slide back and does produce recoil, hammer
     re-cocked/next round loaded, repeat until empty, slide locks back via
     slide lock lever) There are lesser expensive GBB's out there which are not
     as exact as some of the more high end pistols, which if ordered out of
     country run from 100-300 dollars. The most popular GBB makers are Western
     Arms, KSC, Maruzen, Tanaka, and Tokyo Marui. These guns come in the
     following forms: Beretta- M9, 92, centurion, brigadeir, 92 INOX, 92 elite,
     84, Cougar, 93r (full auto)
     Colt- 1911A1, 1991 black or silver, MKIV series 70 and 80
     Walther- P99 (suppressor avail) PPk (suppressor avail)
     H&K- MK23 SOCOM, USP .40, USP tacical, USP custom
     Strayer Voight INFINITY- 6", 5", 4.3", 3.9" in black or silver
     SIG- 220, 226, 228, 229, 230, 232, sigro 2340
     GLOCK- 17, 26, 18c (full auto)
     Other- DE .50, CZ 75, browning HP, etc
     Tracer Unit- This item looks like a suppressor, and basically has a light
     in it which is activated when a BB passes through the clear tube. This
     does not suppress the gun, or affect velocity or accuracy, but it does
     provide a nice little "muzzle flash" or, when using special green tracer
     BB's, will give an AWESOME starwars affect...but it does give away your
     position.
     Spring Powered- inexpensive, not very powerful, nuff said. UNLESS you get
     a Tokyo Marui Spring Shotgun, Benelli M3 or SPAS 12, which fire 3 BB's per
     trigger pull and are very powerful and fun to shoot. And then the hi-end
     single shot sniper rifles...but those are a whole new topic.    

Those are the main types of airsoft guns. Basically, AEG's are all
     automatic assault rifles and SMG's, and *most* GBB's are pistols, and the
     only really fun springers are sniper rifles and shotguns.
     Airsoft guns are basically used for inexpensive yet very fun plinking,
     tactical training, and skirmishing in a similar fashion to paintball
     (which we laugh at when we all see orange and purple colored guns) yet we
     play by an honor system, because airsoft BB's leave no visible markings
     behind. Yet when skirmishing, we take all the needed precautions to
     prevent injury- eye and face protection, which is MANDANTORY. And because
     we play with such realistic replicas, we almost always carry our gear and
     spare magazines with us the same way that the SEAL's or the Rangers do.
     Many of the hardcore airsofters invest alot of time and money into thier
     gear and guns, for example, here is my total loadout:
     AEG- Knights Armament SR-16 M4. Base gun- TM M4A1. Additions- Systema KAC
     metal body, bushmaster carry handle, tight bore barrel, all systema
     upgraded internals, aimshot 6300 laser sight, 4x20 scope, dual magazine
     clamp, retractable 4 position stock. Soon to add replica M203 (fires like
     spas 12/M3), surefire replica M500A tactical light, C-more flat-top
     tactical sight.
     GBB- TM M9 (full metal, on order), USP .40 with threaded barrel and
     suppressor.
     Gear- Woodland BDU set, Eagle Industries tactical vest and thigh
     holster/pistol belt combo, M12 holster, Balaclava, ESS CBCAM goggles,
     ALTAMA combat boots, BDU cap, Motorola 250/w headset, camelbak hydration
     system, 6 spare magazines for the M4, 2 for the M9, 1 for the USP, pistol
     lanyard for M9, nomex flight gloves.
     Can you say special forces? Cause when you play airsoft, you sure can feel
     like a SEAL, or SWAT, or whatever youre into.
     LAWS- all airsoft guns come with orange paint on the muzzles, and with
     trademarks puttied over. Yes, these guns are so exact that they even have
     identical trademarks on them, liscensed of course in japan. However, it is
     possible to reverse them both, which is not a good idea because it is a
     felony to do so. (nobody does it...really)
     Basically, airsoft is a great sport, and I hope this answers some
     questions for you all.
