I saw a Smithsonian documentary about the 747 recently. They had an Air Force One pilot talking about the plane, and when he mentioned the classified defenses Air Force One has... well I don't know why, but I got the distinct impression that it might have offensive weaponry on board. Not just countermeasures, but offensive weapons. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I figure it would be fairly easy to retrofit a 747 with a retractable gun turret or a weapons bay with missiles.

A gun turret would be defensive. No, why would it have offensive weapons?? Unless you consider the "football" onboard as an offensive weapon.

No weapons, no escape pod. At least that is the "official" reply. That doesn't mean it doesn't have these things, only that they declare it as such.

There is a water bed in the nose. When under attack the water is pumped outside to make a cloud the plane can hide behind.

Not sure if it would be allowed into other country's airspace if it did. But then again, that would be quite an international incident if they refused.

Active Defense being weapons that defend yourself by killing what is a threat to you.

Rumor has it that chaff and flare countermeasures have been replaced by "K-FOD" systems (Kinetic Foreign Object Defense)
dispensers. System is activated by a "Bogey" - thousands of golf-balls are dumped out a special deployment system into then enemies flight path. ![]() |

Well, it's a scientific fact that raging about things on a board full of gun nuts is actually the most effective political mechanism for change, but NRA is a close second.

This might sound stupid but...It's a giant flying house. How hard could it be to disguise a rotary launcher for some AIM-9's? I don't know either way, but it would make some sense to have offensive weapons.

AF-1 is designed with high tech countermeasure systems - I do not know the specifics, but you can bet that it has chaff and flare dispensers at a minimum, along with some sort of dazzler system to confuse laser guided missiles.
