Umm...no.  That's what pellet guns are for maybe, a 22 short at the outside.
Actually, coral snakes are not all that dangerous unless you live with very old or very young people, as coral snakes don't have fangs and have to chew a wound with their regular teeth before secreting poisin into it.

A 12 ga on a coral snake is like using a 338 Win Mag on a whitetail. These are pretty small, thin snakes we're talking about, not an Eastern diamondback or something.  MAYBE a .410.

But then again, that snake is too big and not a coral snake.

Coral snakes have black heads and stripes mostly the same size.

Not a coral snake and just a baby.

Coral snake, full grown.

Caught both of these in my front yard a week apart, verified by my herpetologist neighbor.

As a member of the Elapidae family, Coral snakes certainly DO have fangs. They have short fixed fangs, not hinged as vipers have.
They don't have poison either...it's venom.

Coral snakes have fangs right in the front of their mouths and larger ones can easily and rapidly deliver a fatal bite.  Eastern coral snakes can deliver up to three or four lethal yields.

The only live coral snakes I've ever seen were only 12-18" long and I just left em be. While highly venomous, they pose next to no danger unless you're dumb enough to hand handle one.Bites by them are so rare that nobody even bothers to keep antivenin for them.

Well, they have fangs per se, but they are much smaller than pit vipers and not retractable, so they have to hold on.  I was wrong about the chewing thing....that's one of those things I was told in school by my science teacher waaaaaay back when and believed without ever checking it.  Sorry.

If it's worth shooting with a shotgun at all, it's worth upgrading to 12-gauge. Preferably with #1 buck.

Well, they aren't equipped to strike from a distance like pit vipers are.  They have to bite, but they can do that real quick and don't need to hang on.  This species kills a fair number of people in Mexico every year, they are definitely dangerous.  The much smaller Arizona/Sonoran coral snake is much less so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coral_snake
Coral snakes have a tendency to hold on to a victim when biting, unlike vipers which have retractable fangs and tend to prefer to strike and let go immediately

http://www.reptilechannel.com/snakes/venomous-snakes/coral-snakes.aspx
Fair Warning
Coral snakes, be they large or small, meek or irascible, all have small but well-developed, permanently upright front fangs. They usually grasp and chew their prey to effect an envenomation.
