All,

I apologize in advance if i have posted in the wrong location as I am new to the forum and this will be my second post.  I was wondering if anyone that was involved in the business would have any advice on getting into firearms sales.  I come from a family with a strong background in sporting goods sales (bait and tackle and outdoors supply is a family industry), and we owned a gun shop until the assault weapons band and decided not to renew our FFL.  I digress.  After dropping out of college due to lack of interest and unimpressed at the dollar per knowledge ratio of the University I attended (University of Miami, FL), I decided to go into a sales background.  I previously have sold and designed computer configurations for varying military fields and corporate companies, but the recent acquisition of my company by Dell has led to me being constructively terminated, even though I broke various sales records and still hold some to this day. I am currently settling a lawsuit with them.  That being said, I am out of a job and would really like to get into selling firearms as it has become the passion of my life.  The first memory I have of my father is cleaning magazines to an AK-47 as he attempted to explain to me that magazines can not only be read, but shot as well.  If anyone had any advice at all, I would greatly appreciate it.  I am sorry about the long post just though it would better help explain the situation.

I first read it here, and it bears repeating, I suppose:

Q: What's the best way to make a million dollars as an FFL?
A: Start with 2 million.

I think I should probably clarify.  I am not willing to start my own business or open a gun shop of any kind.  I would like to work for either a manufacturer or perhaps another gun company doing sales or perhaps government sales.  Maybe that will help.

Exactly what I thought when I read the title.  As my favorite gunshop is shutting down....

Did you hear about the FFL who won the lottery?

When asked what he planned to do with his million dollars, he replied he intended to keep working until it was gone.

Welcome to ARFCOM!!!

I would start cold calling the manufacturers and find out how they sell to distrubutors etc etc, how they post job openings etc etc etc.

Find a job  selling widgets to the feds and various state agencies and use that experience to land a job with a fireamrs co that sells big toys to the .mil or .gov

Gun shops make their money from parts and services; not sales of firearms. It's a tough business, with all the regulation and all. It's an expensive inventory to start off with, too.

I guess you can contact companies like Colt, Glock, Smith and Wesson etc, but I suspect there are guys out there applying for the same jobs who actually finished thier business degrees and will one up you.

All the traveling Glock reps get to carry a Glock 18 machine pistol for demo to LE depts. and gun dealers.

Also you won't be able to use your previous employer as a work reference because you have  a lawsuit against them and no other company is going to hire someone who turns to the legal system when thier employment does not work out.
