A D O P T A T R O L L. Many Mail List and Message Board Trolls wonder homeless from list to list, board to board, having to feed on random posters along the way. This can take away from their effectiveness. Adopt a Troll hopes to alleviate this problem by assisting homeless Trolls by finding and welcoming them with open arms to various Trolless lists and boards around the net. Trolls are much more effective when they can find a permanent home, and can fully move in. Having a well fed, and cared for pet Troll in your list or board can be a handy thing. They always make for great entertainment when things are slow. They quickly feed and devour any other invading troll messing with their food supply. Trolls when treated well will often protect and guard regulars of any list or board with all the viciousness of a rabid pit bull on steroids. This makes for good security. Become an "ADOPT A TROLL" sponsor. By sending your money today you can start a young Troll on the road to success. For just $5.00 a day you can support a troll. You can get them help in finding a Trolless unsuspecting list or board. You can get them multiple ISP accounts to jump from, and up to five anonymous remailers to hide behind, and we even provide them with a bridge to lurk under. As your Troll grows strong, you will be sent updates on how your Troll is doing, and receive personal flames from your Troll to know that they are OK. In just a short time you will be able to sit back and watch your Troll make some unsuspecting poster have a complete mental & nervous break down.. Send your money today. Please help homeless Trolls, tell them about alt.support.troll-acceptance!! A proud sponsor of ADOPT A TROLL

I really don't know if we could make Hunter88 into our 2002 poster child for trollism. I'm afraid that just when Goatboy rolled him out onto the stage, for the big phone in money maker, end of telethon finaly, That it would be like the closing scene of Doctor Strangelove and that Hunter88's arm would involintarily jump off the armrest of the wheel chair in a Nazi salute, rising up yelling "Mein Furher I CAN WALK"

I was thinking more along the lines of the big tap-dancing number from "Young Frankenstein"

troll1 Pronunciation Key (trl) v. trolled, troll·ing, trolls v. tr. To fish for by trailing a baited line from behind a slowly moving boat. To fish in by trailing a baited line: troll the lake for bass. To trail (a baited line) in fishing. Slang. To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something: “ [Criminals] troll bus stations for young runaways” (Pete Axthelm). Music. To sing in succession the parts of (a round, for example). To sing heartily: troll a carol. To roll or revolve. v. intr. To fish by trailing a line, as from a moving boat. To wander about; ramble. Slang. To patrol an area in search for someone or something. Music. To sing heartily or gaily. To roll or spin around. n. The act of trolling for fish. A lure, such as a spoon or spinner, that is used for trolling. Music. A vocal composition in successive parts; a round. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Middle English trollen, to wander about, from Old French troller, of Germanic origin.] troll v.,n. 1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that the have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll." 3. [Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular campus job for CS students. Duties include helping newbies and ensuring that lab policies are followed. Probably so-called because it involves lurking in dark cavelike corners. Some people claim that the troll (sense 1) is properly a narrower category than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial. A strumpet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Perhaps from troll1 to roll about, wallow.] trollop n : a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money [syn: prostitute, cocotte, whore, harlot, bawd, tart, cyprian, fancy woman, working girl, sporting lady, lady of pleasure, woman of the street]
