I have been avoiding this day for years and living in denial
about it, but today I finally conceded and got a handicap tag.

And it says Permanent

I had always hoped it was not true, and that somehow
my back was going to get better, but I guess it's true.

Damn

Sorry to hear that dude.

On the plus side, at least you have valid reason to own a pimp cane.

Do you own one?

Sorry to hear it man. But if you had been injured that bad, there is no shame with getting the help you need for it. Don't feel bad about it.

Not to worry.  Women all need one too, they just won't admit it.

Sorry to hear that, bro.

Here in Oklahoma, "Handicapped-Permanent" makes keeping your driver's license lot harder because they're always wanting an updated medical statement from your doctor saying that you are still fit to drive.

Dude, I have been carting my MIL around for the past year - don't get me wrong, she;'s living with us now and I love being responsible for her, but I had to ask her DR for a tag so I can get Mom where she needs to go.

While you may need the tag, you aren't "there" yet.

Sorry to hear of your setback. There is always hope things will get better though at times hope can be hard to find. Here is a nice cane. A buddy of mine has one and it is not tourist junk. It is a fearsome weapon.

Sword cane

A few years ago my dad had knee surgery and was lamenting about needing a cane. So I bought him a bitchin sword cane and presented it to him right before the surgery. Unfortunately, security at his office in NYC told him its considered a concealed weapon, so he relegated it to the home.

But its badass.

Get the pimp cane with the hidden sword inside. One twist and you have three feet of rapier.

ETA: reading comp fail. Sorry.

Pimp cane or not, having a handicap tag is not at all the same as surrendering your man card.  Carry, on, soldier!

I don't have one and wouldn't want to qualify for one, but I'd accept one if I did happen to qualify.  It's a small gain for the price, but at least it's a gain.

Also, a license plate has nothing to do with your prognosis...just whether the tag bureau accepts one prognosis.

Thank you for the encouragement.

I will admit I did use it and was glad to have it the other day.

Now off to search for a pimp cane

Sword canes are illegal to carry in public in most states.

Bayonnet lugs, however, are legal on canes, even in NY.

Do you own ANY type of pet such as goldfish, a rabit, a small yip dog, a cat, a lizard, etc.?

If yes, get something to fit on said pet (or in the case of the goldfish a sticker for the bowl) that says it's a SERVICE PET and you can take your pet with you into any business!  No one questions your choice of pets, may as well go with it.

When you're asked you can use such phrases as, "My pet gerbil [whatever] takes my mind of the excruciating lower back pain."
