So I'm taking my money from the bonds that I've saved up the past four years and I'm going to put this $1,300 towards a nice 7.62 mm rifle. I have a 1,000rds of ammo that I bought 6 years ago when I was original going to buy an FAL type rifle. Now I have three rifle chooses one is a nice DSA SA58 a used M1A and last is the RRA LAR-10. Now I have 8 FAL mags for when I was going to buy the FAL and they will also work on the LAR-10 but the M1A has been the rifle I've wanted since I was 13 years old and saw it in a S.O.F article. The only down side to the M1A is that if I buy the rifle that is all I can get no extra mags no more ammo until I save up some more money. The M1A does come with one 20rd mag so I'll have one mags for it. So if you where in my place what would you get?

Get the M1A...you can find mags for it fairly cheap now.

The sights are much better and you can shoot high power matches with it...

I think you will enjoy it more than an FAL.

i'd lean toward the fal but IMHO DSA is WAY over priced on those guns. they are well made and finished but to me just not worth that kind of money for a fal. My opinion only. I have seen VERY few dsa's have problems out of the box.

i'd be more inclined to look for an older M1a with all gi parts. they are out there and generally under 1k.

Tail of Three Cities?

I'd get the FAL, but the M1A is a good choice too.

The LAR-10 isn't even out yet, and when you consider the problems that Bushmaster had with theirs (same design) I would want to see a few other people be the test cases before I spent my money on one.

I see a lot of people selling the M1A Socom 16 is there something wrong with them? I'd much rather have a scout then it anyway but I've been find them all over of $1,300 up to $1,400 used with only 100 to 500 round thought them! What gives??

M1A definately

I've only seen it for the M1A Socom 16 the rest of the M1A that I've found used most where Pawn shop trade ins for cash and they never came back to get the rifle.

I have a guy offering me pre ban Polytech, all Poly except the TRW bolt and a NM no lug flashhider. Have a USGI Fiberglas stock for it for $900.. I'm not sure about these rifles I'm thinking spend the extra $300 and get a Springfield.

Whatever you get just make sure you get Goose down comforters for them. They don't like to sleep on anything else.

I have both an M1A and DSA58. Love them both! Hard to choose just one but if I had to I would be the DS58. FALs are the greatest rifles of all time (but not by much, splitting hairs)!

polytechs had some of the best recievers out their. there was some question of soft bolts on very early guns and improperly fit bolts on the newer ones causing headspace issues. if it's got a gi bolt that's been resolved. i have a norinco and it's a VERY good shhoting reliable gun. i'd have no problem buying that one except for the price. i'd think 700.00 tops for it with the work done.

+1 for the comment on the polys. I just got one and it rocks.
Also ask him who did the bolt conversion, alot of them are done wrong/badly. In rare cases a usgi bolt will drop in and work fine, but usually its not the case. Names you want to hear are smith enterprises, warbird, fulton armory. You might worry if you hear the name my local gunsmith bubba down the street. Essentially good work entails some slight machining of the reciever, while bad work entails grinding down a USGI bolt to get it to fit (which is bad if you grind too much as you get through the surface hardness of the bolt to the soft bits = quickly growing headspace, also no other usgi bolts will drop in.)

Get a FAL

Fal. The rra needs to be proven first.

I don't want to act like an ass, but didn't you say elsewhere that you were having serious money issues with the missus? Might not be the best time to buy another toy...but it's your choice.

If you're dead set on an M14, don't get it from Springfield Armory. I would suggest Smith Enterprises, Fulton Armory, or LRB Arms (which is local for me), but they're all well over $1300.

For that reason, I'd say go with either the FAL or the RRA LAR-10. Personally, I'd go woth the LAR-10.

I'm but I'm going to be getting about $2,500 on bonds and saving account. Another $1054.00 a month GI. Bill after I start school and About $10,500 if I join the NG then my wife is bringing in $4,000 a month and I'm bring in about $1,020 a month..

Really it is the $2,500 that is helping me out a lot and I've been making a little money by selling some of my old military gear. Last this rifle is more then likely going to be bought in the next 3 to 6 months. I'm just trying to plan thing out and get stuff I need and sell the stuff I don't need.
