A few, in fact...

1) What is the difference between "Covering Fire" and "Suppression Fire"?

2) What is the difference between a "Phase Line" and a "Line of Departure"?

I'm sure I'll have a few more later...

Suppressive = Keep their heads down and them not be able to return fire
Covering fire = Fire so that your troops may maneuver into better position

Phase Line = Separate deep and close operations
LoD = Designates the 'departure' of attack

Isn't that the same thing?

sometimes but not always.

Think of it like this. Hammer and mallet. Both tools, both can be used for the same thing some of the time, but not always.

It's been a while, but I think I can answer these. Damn, this is the third time that I tried to submit this, I see it never got posted, hopefully this time it will go in.

Covering fire allows your squad or fireteam to advance.

Suppression fire keeps the enemy behind cover.

A line of departure is basically a designated area where you begin the attack.

A phase line is various points of the battle or area of operation where objectives are completed. Each completed objective will be a Phase, and at such time, security for the completed phase, and unit reorganization and preperation for the next phase will be carried out.
