What kind of acrylics are you using? I used to use Armory acrylics before they went out of business. The biggest thing to remember when using oils is to use a scale paint. One made specifically for models. Floquil was originally made for model railroading, and I don't know if they're in business anymore, but I used their paints extensively before and after I used armory paints. The trick is to thin it enough to be forgiving, but not to the point of it being too runny. I used to do 25, and 15 mm miniatures.
