Hill emerged from the war a national hero. John Wayne based his character on him in the 1942 film, "The Flying Tigers," and Hill earned numerous medals, among them the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, four Distinguished Flying Crosses, the British Flying Cross and six Chinese combat decorations.

A very sad day.
A close family friend is one of only a 5-6 Tiger pilots left, Ken Jernstad. I have heard great first hand stories about Tex and other Tigers and his passing is a great loss for us all. Gone soon are the days of battle stories like the ones these men tell.
