I know most of us have multiple guns. If you could only have one, what would you choose? Your favorite AR or your favorite pistol?

Every able bodied American should at least have an AR. Pistol is additional.

Fight your way to a rifle with a pistol. Easier to carry a pistol around. |

I love shooting pistols way more than my ARs, but if I could only keep one, I'm keeping the gun that will serve me better in more situations: The AR stays.

I love my pistols, but the Rifle stays.

The pistol is far and away more valuable than a rifle. In the rare instances you need a rifle, you can acquire one with a handgun. See the Liberator pistol and the Warsaw ghetto uprising.

If I could only have one, I'd have a Glock 19. That tricked out AR-15 doesn't help you any at home in the safe when you get mugged at the gas station.

The AR, because it would be more effective at stopping whoever tried to take my pistol!
|

AR Pistol?
Really, I have one. I'd use it to get to the 16", with the C-Mag... |

If you could only have one It would depend almost totally on the environment I was in. In an urban setting - where crime was a major consideration - a pistol would be useful in a lot more situations than a rifle. In a rural setting - where hunting game was a consideration - a rifle would be the obvious choice. |

My AR if we're talking about general use. A pistol is of limited to use for me as a hunting weapon although I do practice the sport.
|
|
Depends on what the situation is that caused to be the fact that I could only have one gun. If legislation, AR.

My govt model of course. 9 rounds of concealed .45acp would likely trump the AR left in my safe or trunk.

Handgun, probably a pistol. Probably a G19.
I can't get away with carry a rifle everyday, and for me concealed carry is my firearm priority. If I could sling a rifle around with no negatives, then I would consider a rifle. |

If the zombie apocalypse or some other end-of-times event were upon us, rifle.
If tomorrow will be like today, pistol. People frown on you carrying an AR into Walmart. They never know about the pistol. |

Maybe it's illogical to you, but the AR would serve me better. Please notice how I used the words "I" and "me" in my original post. The OP did not state if this was SHTF, or just mundane, everyday events. The rifle serves me better in both. I live in a very rural area. If SHTF, I'm not going around other people. I'm just trying to keep other people away from my area. In everyday mundane life, the rifle lets me supply food and defend the home. The weakness is of course not having an easy to conceal firearm, but if forced, I'm still picking the gun I can hunt with. In the last 15 years, I have used my hunting rifles every year and had a full freezer. In that same time, I've never pulled my CC gun. Please feel free to post your own opinion to the OP's question. I'll be sure to assume it's illogical if it doesn't apply to me as soon as I read it. |

I'm a big handgun guy. I'd go with my Sig. Sigs really aren't that big. How about a Desert Eagle? Edit; |

I guess I left it a little open. Most people are taking this more towards a self defense purpose. Not sure I meant it that way. Not sure what I thought. Wasn't thinking just self defense.

Pistol, just because I can carry around with me all of the time, like I do right now.
A rifle is definitely a better thing to have when you need to use it, but it won't fit in my pocket. |
|
I recall a guy who stuck around NO during Katrina saying a rifle was good, but that you couldn't carry it as many places as you could a pistol. I'd probably go with my 92FS.
|

Unless your nickname is Sasquatch, those AR "pistols" will be hard to CCW.
ETA: Pistol, but thinking about giving up my AR makes me EETA: AR, but thinking about giving up my pistol makes me I hate it when "get both" is against the rules. Long live Kobayashi Maru. |

If I could only have one firearm then it will aways be a rifle.. so AR

I am more likely to need to kill dog or coyotes that are killing or trying to kill my livestock then a mugger at the gas station.. |

This is a decision I hope I never have to make outside hypothetical discussion but a pistol makes more sense for my situation.

if we are talking indoors, I would choose a pistol. Let me explain why.
Part of my job is teaching weapon retention to trainees, and myself and several team members wear blauer suits inside a room when the students enter. With a long gun in confined spaces, i often have more of a chance of controlling the muzzle and taking the fight ot the ground, using the trainee as a shield between me and his buddy, in the hopes of getting a choke sunk in while my fellow instructors deal with his buddy. Trainees with pistols always have an advantage. The training is as realistic as we can make it, and every scenario is different. Been meaning to upload pics and plan to do so soon. I have some pics on my facebook if anyone is interested in seeing them. |
