If you order an AR kit from one of the surplus companies (i.e. Sarco, Tapco) and it is made from M16s including a sear all fire control parts and carrier. What is the best course of action? Destroy the parts? Play Stupid? Turn them into the authorities with an explanation? Hasen't happened to me but did happen to a friend and he sorta freaked.

The parts are just parts, until a AR-15 lower comes into the same location, then if ATF does a raid, then there may be a "constructive intent" to build an unregisterd MG or some other silly violation. Store the parts at a different location (like at work in a desk drawer). Don't destroy the parts, as the fire control set runs maybe $59 new, the sear is $25(avg) and the carrier maybe $85? Sell the stuff as "replacement parts". You can modify the parts, but the trigger still has the rear opening, and the carrier is supposedly really hard material/ heat treat to cut the sear trip away. Sell the parts to "recover" some cost to pay for AR control parts.

Putting them in the desk drawer isn't enough. Give them to a family member or friend in another house. At work is still considered under your control and looks even worse if they find it because it shows a knowledge of the parts illegality.

Yup, parts are just parts.... until a lower is thrown in the equation. I find it strange that the parts would be included...... oh well.

Wouldn’t storing the parts in a different location be legal, because they would not be under the same roof as the AR? Like putting them in a storage safe deposit box or in your storage unit if you had one. Although, this would only help you out if you were planning on buying a RDIAS in the future – but those are dam expensive and may be restricted in some areas. If you don’t intend to do that then just sell them, or have a friend of your sell them.
