So...  I, like everybody else here in GD, have an AR bedside, loaded and ready ventilate anyone who dares cross the threshold uninvited...but has it been done?  Does anyone know of a case where a homeowner used an AR in defense of his or her castle?  Maybe there are a lot of them but I don't think that I remember any.

I remember reading about one in an article about a self defense shooting.  Also, I think there was that gun shop owner that used an AR iirc.  It has been done.

There was a video someone posted on here recently of a dude taking it to two bad guys that tried to hold up his business.  I do believe he had an AR of some flavor.  Personally I like my AUG A3 for "around the house work".

I have defended my window sill from a couple stinkbugs with the butt of my AR.  That's about it.

This one is what I think you mean.  Not a home, but store owner was staying in the rear apt. of the store with his wife.

So not common.  Due to lack of home invasions or preference for other weapons?  I tried the recommended google search, it turns up tons of sites recommending the AR for home defense but not as many examples of its use as I would have expected.  Regardless,  its a fine choice if set up as a CQB rifle I suppose.  I do think its where the AR pistol shines.

You need to remember that long arms of any type, even shotguns, are not typical defense weapons normally used by people.

By percentage, handguns are used more often by everyone.

I think they make an AR-15 type shotgun.  A few rounds of double ought birdshot should take care of bidness.

Vast majority of people buy handguns for HD/SD, the neighborhoods where B&Es occur most frequently tend to have very few people that buy firearms of significant value.

IIRC a teen used one in Houston a few years ago.
