How would you respond to AR-15 type semi automatic rifles being declared 'unusual and dangerous' weapons by anti gun policy makers.

Remember Heller said 'unusual and dangerous' weapons could be banned

Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:33:49 PM EDT
I always figured that was a reference to RPG's or something of that nature.

They certainly aren't unusual as far as frequency is goes.

They are no more or less dangerous than any other gun.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:34:30 PM EDT
Unusual? No, they're very usual. The most popular rifle on the market, bar none.

Dangerous? We can argue over that one, and we will. But mechanically they're no more dangerous than any other semi-automatic firearm. No different than a Browning BAR, Garand, Mini-14/30, or other semi-auto fudd guns.

The restrictions on ARs are based on cosmetics because its the only way it can even possibly work. Mechanically, semi-auto guns are not dangerous at all.

Anything is dangerous in the wrong hands
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:35:23 PM EDT
Weapons by design are dangerous and the AR215 where allowed is pretty much ubiquitous.

I would generally respond thogh to that comment if made to me with a FuhQ
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:45:26 PM EDT
The AR-15 is a very common firearm. Firearms are not dangerous, people are.

Hopefully not since they are in "common use".

AR-15 !!!!
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:50:31 PM EDT
They are designed to spray bullets from the hip, after all
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:54:50 PM EDT
Unusual, no.
Dangerous, only in the wrong hands.

Seeing as the language is (assuming you copied it word for word) "Unusual AND dangerous", they are *technically* safe.

Still, this doesn't mean they won't try it.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:56:39 PM EDT
Funny, thats how I describe anti-gunners.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 12:58:34 PM EDT
Dangerous would be a shooter that doesn't grasp the concept of the 4 rules.

Unusual would require the shoulder thing that goes up.

unusual

Main Entry: un·usu·al
Function: adjective
Date: 1579
: not usual : uncommon , rare
— un·usu·al·ly adverb
— un·usu·al·ness noun

Wouldn't seem to apply.

With the numbers that have been sold in the US I don't think they are 'un' usual.

They are lower caliber than many other common rounds, so I don't think they are unusually dangerous.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 1:00:56 PM EDT
They can't be unusual because I have at least three of them.

Dangerous?  They haven't blown up yet.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 1:01:05 PM EDT
They're not unusual, but isn't every firearm dangerous?  That's kinda the point, isn't it?

My friend has an AR15 made out of live rattlesnakes. That's pretty dangerous, and fairly unusual. Would they ban that?
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 1:03:58 PM EDT
shoulder thing, man.  That shit goes up.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 1:03:59 PM EDT
remember what "...shall not be infringed." means?

I say we invoke our God given rights and fix things like our founding fathers provisioned because nothing else has worked.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 1:04:31 PM EDT
The best way of making sure they can't be labelled as "unusual" is to buy a metric fuck-ton of them!

.223 Remington is one of these most common rounds around
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:29:40 PM EDT
They're only unusual and/or dangerous to hoplophobes.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:30:03 PM EDT
A gun is only as dangerous as the person shooting it, and the caliber and bullet type they are using.

Shot placement is everything...it can turn a 22LR into a Man Killer, and a 30-06 into mouse gun
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:32:36 PM EDT
AR15s are a firearm in common use.  They're the most popular rifle in America, and calling them "Unusual" is objectively wrong.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:34:40 PM EDT
They are the service rifle, they are required to participate in goverment sactioned service rifle matches.

Tell them go to hell.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:35:25 PM EDT
A Lamborghini Diablo is unusual and dangerous.

NO FAST CARS, ANYMORE
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:37:06 PM EDT
Can't be dangerous... they're designed to wound the enemy!

But they're already in D.C.

I don't think one can successfully argue that they are unusual in character of operation or in sales.  I doubt that test is simply going to mean find the rifle with the lowest sales volume and ban it.  However, if it were a plasma rifle in the 40 watt range then we might have a real fight on our hands.
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:44:55 PM EDT
If Remington makes it, it's not unusual
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:46:04 PM EDT
Kick 'em in the nuts?
Link Posted: 11/21/2008 3:47:11 PM EDT
Guns don't kill people.

People kill people.

That's the end of the conversation.  Period.  Stupid fucking gun ban advocates NEED to understand this, but they won't.

Mine is for sure, sometimes I catch it walking around the house with its hand guards.

"Unusual and dangerous" is whatever Eric Holder says it is.

Isn't that nice?
