I was leaving the bar around 2 am after visiting with some friends. A dude stepped out the shadows and started approaching me. He was about 50 feet away. I was about 5 feet from my truck. I didnt have my carry weapon on me because you are not allowed to have them in a bar. But it was in my truck.
He said, "Excuse me" and kept approaching. I guess, my brain went into alert status thinking about the situations at the car wash. I spun around and immediately yelled at him to back off. I clicked the locks open and was ready to get my G26. He must have realized I wasnt an easy victim because, he started mumbling he just wanted the time and turned around and walked away. He had cell phone in his hand. So he knew darn well what time it was. So thank you ARFCOM for saving my life. And no I didnt draw down on him and no dogs were shot in this exchange. |

Amateur! Glad you're OK! |

Guns/Drinking/Driving don't mix well. I trust you weren't drinking at 2AM?
glad to hear you're safe... 2 am, in the shadows by bars that close about then, cell phone - methinks he knew exactly what time it was...
No, I really dont drink anymore as my 20+ year old bottles of dust covered booze will show you. I have usually just have a few Diet Cokes. |
Ever occur to you that his cell may have died and needed a phone... or what if his wife needed an emergency pap smear done?
I would have talked with him... find his motivation. |
No I could see the lights on his phone, thats how I knew it was a phone because the display was lit. Not to mention he could have asked what time it was from where he was standing. |

AAAAHHHAHAAHAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Libtard thinking in process!!!!!!! |

Good job! And, I'm glad it all worked out ok. |

You forgot an important ARFCOM rule: If your gun isnt welcome, you don't feel welcome either.
I don't frequent places I cant carry if at all possible. The only exception is that i DO have to go to class, so I leave the Beretta at home when I'm on campus. I don't go to bars specifically because I am not allowed to carry there. People look at me weird when we go to Fridays and I want to get a table. |
Im messin with ya... see the smiley winky dude? MY issue is why do people feel the need to approach me at gas stations. All the time when I am in "questionable" neighborhoods... "Hey man you got a few bucks to spare?" Shame actually, some people really need money but the friggen scumbags have me so pissed. Sorry, didnt mean to go off on a rant of my own. |

How do you know it wasn't Bama-Shooter and his Swinging friends? Maybe you missed out on the time of your life. |

Not to mention I could have treated any social diseases myself. |

He probably needed some advice on getting "that smell" off of his finger
Unfortuately, Michigan CCW laws are very specific about where and when you can carry guns. Bars, schools, sports arenas, and hospitals are few of the places that are no nos. its not worth losing my right to carry. |
The more I thionk about this thread the more I think you took the right measures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most bars close around 2 AM? And if so, wouldn't that mean there were quite a few people filing out of the bar? Seems to me the guy with the cell phone would have realized it wasn't 7:30 PM by the fact that it was very late and a shit load of people were leaving an establishment.
You were browsing with one? |
You are correct. Thats why it made me go into alert status right away. It was also not a nicer neighborhood and it was very dark. |
He had a cell phone in his hand? What was he going to do? Rob you with his cell phone?
I'll see your and raise you |

Have to remember that if a situation like this should arise. |

I have to agree with the majority here, ARDOC: You're never going to get this thing published like this and Hollywood won't touch it. Take my editorial advice:
1. Not NEARLY enough knuckle dragging, testosterone dripping machismo in this tale. "Gruesome" it up a LOT. Blood sells, and lots of it: yours, his, bystander, doesn't matter. All three would be best. 2. Throw in a gratuitous sex scene. Just take my word for it. 3. You're going for an NC-17 rating: keep that in mind. You're stuck in "G" territory so far. 4. Turn the would-be assailant into an Irishman. When Hollywood got hold of Tom Clancy's terrorists they all became Irish, so we have to go with the flow. You obviously have talent, it just needs proper guidance. Hanging out at more dangerous bars might be a start. |

post of the day... right there... hand out the award! |
Dude,
All I was going to do was ask you what time it was and what your screen name is. I guess now I know. Didn't mean to scare you like that. |
Why'd you yell at me man:( i dropped my phone in the toilet earlier and i was waiting on my friends to come by and get me and i wanted to know if they were late!!
If you only had a laser pointer you could have had him high tailing out of sight.
ARDOC: "Hey Buddy, why did you bring a cell phone to a gun fight?" Bad Guy: "huh....I gotta go change my shorts." |
So it was you! Explain why jackass you would approach a guy in the dark? No, we at some downriver bar. |

Yeah, but their specific is still vague to a degree: "A tavern where the primary sourse of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the premises" Which of course to a sensible person means that you can carry in a restaurant that happens to serve alcohol...but not a bar that happens to serve food. So, Red Robin and TGIFriday are okay, but The Post bar is probably not. But if you've ever been to one of The Post bars, the larger ones are restaurant during the day/afternoon/evening...and like a club late night. No Expert |

Subi's Place??? No Expert |

He was probably just trying to offer ARDOC 200.00 dollars to take naughty pictures of him on his new camera phone. |

Ummm..... bud ??? Maybe just a little TMI there And yeah...... I might just let YOU stick a buncha needles in me now wow. |

All these "close contact" stories serve a purpose- virtual Viagra for this community. Some stories reward you with lasting excitement, others just temporary. It reminds me of watching my dogs in the back yard looking at passing birds/squirrels. Just giving you a hard time ARDOC. I would have either drawn steel or pissed my pants. Your method was more effective with less escalation |

So I have a quick question. Had this incident gone to the point where you had no choice but to defend yourself with your CCW since you are a Dr. would you have been obligated to then treat the man that you just had to shoot?
Thats an interesting question indeed. I may need to since I am a qualified medical personel I may need to render assistance. I would be covered under the good samaritan laws for malpractice. But since I would have most likely have triple tapped Scott574 in the chest, there would be no point in trying to resusitate him. |
