Here in Bedford, VA. I've seen Glock 22's and 23's, a few SIG P226's and one Wilson Combat 1911.

What is your current issued service pistol?

State Police here carry Sig 229s in .40 S&W.

My town police carry Springfield XDs, I think those are in .40 S&W also. Before that they carried Glock 22s.

Not a cop, but I buy a lot of guns from them.

All the depts around me are officer purchase, therefore you see lots of variety. (Long guns too)   I know of one deputy that carries a sweet little shorty FAL.

One thing curious I've noticed, Glocks are dissappearing and quite a few M&P's are showing up.

Sigs and 1911's  predominate amongst the older guys.  I haven't seen a revolver in quite a while.

Our local cops issue Glock 22 to uniformed patrol, Glock 23 to admin and SA Inc 1911 to SWAT.  870 shotguns. Colt M16A3 Rifles to patrol, Colt M4 rifles to SWAT.  Approx 5,000 officers.

I was originally issued a SS Colt 1911 80"s series.

The department "upgraded" to H&K USP .45 Variant 9 with ambi safety which we carry cocked and locked.

I tossed my own UTL on for night work.

EVERY patrol car has a FA MP-5 in 9mm AND a 14" Benelli in the front rack... good times

Most of the FBI agents I work with use Glock 36s in an ankle holster but they are working mostly intelligence type stuff and carry a variety of other things when doing other but related things. The DEA guys I know carry mostly Sigs of a variety of flavors. The most no joke personification of a cop guy I know was the commander of Austin Texas' Special Ops unit. He had ownership of SWAT, his cops on the JTTF etc. He carried a Wilson Combat. This guy was a big redheaded Irish guy. When you think of a badass no nonsense cop it was this guy he was all effing business and a great guy. This was about 3-4 yrs ago probably retired.

But they're looking at a Daniel Defense M4 for a patrol rifle right now. I was just oggling one in a Capt. friend's office today.

Because Civilians cannot have FA weapons.

There is ALOT of cops, and instructors who swear by GLOCK.  They are good guns at a good price.  However I personally dont care for the weapon.  It just doesnt agree with my hands.  You really need to research several different types of guns and see which you can handle the best.

I started out carrying the SIG P220 .45.

At the 1st of the year I switched to the HK USP .40 Tactical.

I really like SIGS and HKs.  I will probably end up putting the USP Tactical away from duty work in another year and just go with a regular USP 40.   The tactical sites are huge and finding a holster for it is an act of congress.

Several departments in my area issue M16A1's and M14's.

I've got a Glock 30 and Glock 21 as my off duty.

I like seeing there are still LEOs that still use .45ACP.

Unlike those limp wristed G(irly)-men that use a .40S&W.

BTW: are there any agenices that are issued a 10mm?

Converted to semi auto only before issued.  Its cheaper to buy a M16A3 and convert it to semi than it is to buy a Colt Law Enforcment Rifle.

Uh no...its not.  Even for LE agencies, buying automatic weapons is a serious hassle.  But for old time's sake, here's just one of the goodies in my trunk.
