Here But I don't think they sell 12x12 square. I bought a 12in gong from them and several other sizes. They are GTG.
Bill types faster than I do.

EE Ad I saw today
Seems like the smaller stuff is more expensive than Wideners with shipping, but you'd save a bunch for 12x12. Doh, the 12x12 he's selling is 3/8". I've never shot steel, is that a big deal if you're shooting 100+ yards? |

Not 12x12, but check out some salvage yards for old dozer pads/cleats. |

I have several plates from wideners and I got several from a member here who, to the best of my knowledge, no longer has any to sell.
You really don't need 1/2" steel, but it's nice to have. |

I have read about it a little and most say as long as you are 100+ yards away it should not be affected, that goes for 3/8 and 1/2 inch. I just want 1/2'' to be safe, I might be a little closer than 100 yards and am going to be shooting a variety of rifle calibers at the target. The thicker the target is the longer it will last I am assuming. |

Look up steel suppliers in your area, they can get it and cut it to the size you want and save you on shipping.

I've shot 3/8" steel at 15 yards with 5.56 62grain penetrator SS109 at a slight angle all it did was put gray splatter marks on the surface, (just color).
pistol does the same thing, so whatever. |

3/8" is a good size. If you get heavier it will do more damage because of the inertia. This is assuming that you are using it as a swinging style target. So a 24" x 24" piece would be damaged more than a 12" x 12". So keep it small. Our local laser shop keeps AR plate in stock and will cut it to whatever shape you want for barely over material cost if your buying more than a couple.
