I was just curious if any of you have ever been involved in a defensive shooting.  If so let us learn from your story.

I haven't shot anyone, but I have had to draw on a fella....I was still in college, and I was at my self storage unit at 10pm that was rather unlit..well I was in the process of moving my electronics out (computer, stereo, ect.) when some dude came from around a corner to ask me for a light.  I told him that I didn't smoke and he said "come one I know you have one......" and he started walking toward me in a hostile manner that if he kept on would have pinned me between my truck and the storage garage..I let him get within 25 feet of me and then I forcefully told him that I didn't have any matches or lighters and for him to stop were he was..however he just continued on so fearing for my welfare I drew my ruger p94 .40 S&W and he stoped dead in his tracks and says "wow man easy there, I mean you no harm" and starts backing up.  I told him "I mean you no harm either but if you come any closer I will shoot you."  He ran off after that....
I had my new truck....7 guns, a new computer, stereo, TV, VCR, DVD and other stuff right there for the taking.  He could have killed me or put me in a comma if I hadn't chosen to react to a possible threat.

Well, I guess a comma is better than a colon or a period....

Haven't had to shoot anyone but I was sure glad I had my pistol on two occasions:

For a second job, I drive a water truck at night. We go to construction sites and water them down for dust control. On one site there was a Rottweiler running loose and I didn't see him until I was already out of the truck, filling it with water. I got back in the truck before he made it over to me, and the loud truck and spraying water was enough to scare him off.
The other situation was also on a construction site, where a very drunk or very high or both man came over and was begging for a ride. He wouldn't take no for an answer, and it took me about 10 - 15 minutes to get rid of him. ( I finally just drove off ) He kept trying to get right in front of me, and kept getting closer, even though I was telling him to "back off". He was about as tall as me (6'8") and much heavier. I'm about 225 ( by no means small ), but he was easily 350 and  "chemically altered".


Thank god I have never had to draw my weapon, but I've been thankful that I had it.

Here in California, some people are so out of tune with guns that drawing down on them is wholly unnecessary.  I once had a nosy neighbor who would stick his foot in the door every time I came back to my apartment.  One day I came home right as the UPS guy was arriving.  He handed me OD green ammo can which the supplier had thoughfully embellished with big stickers exclaiming SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION!  All it took was one inadvertent flash of this deadly assault ammo can to drive off the would be harasser, permanently!

While travelling around the country with the Army Reserves, I've been forced to stay in some really bad $20 motels (good porn, though).  Anyway, on two separate occasions, I've had people try to kick in my door while I'm sleeping.  Both times I drew down with the Glock 22 I keep by the bedside.  Never had to fire it once they see me and my G-lock!

i don't want to talk too much about it but to make a long story short..

gangster pulled a gun from his vehicle and shot in my direction.

i drew down, and he & his little "boyz" freaked; he threw the gun under the car, they jumped on the ground and assumed the position; some "friends" detained the three of them.

called PD, shots fired, yada, yada - they showed up in 30 seconds!! that's the fastest that i have seen them respond!

PD and SO Gang Unit showed up we all go questioned and they took two of the three.
