I've got some unknown problem with Java on my machine that has managed to make itself a problem not just within Explorer but also within Nutscrape, it basically means that any page that uses Java script will cause an error which forces me to close the window and makes the site unviewable for me.

MY GOD, I cannot tell you how much I freaking hate that pile of crap.    Why can't we just go back to the damned days before Java and all this crap was forced upon us?   I didn't like the stuff before it gained popularity and I still don't like it, as of now I hate it and wish a horrible death to anybody who uses it or worse yet uses it poorly.

JAVA USERS,    DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in all seriousness, I'd piss on the grave of the idiots who were responsible for pushing this pathetic piece of crap upon humanity.

Java Script != Java.

Well, I'm thinking it's a corrupted file.   Had to install Exploder 5.5 some time back and between that and Nutscrape I'm pretty certain it got FUBAR'd sometime around then, it coincides with when my machine started having Java fits left and right.

Still though, I hate the program more than anything.   Popups anyone?   Turn it off you say?   Well that just means that you won't be able to view pages of idiots who make a point of using it.

Even if Java was working properly it wouldn't make it any less annoying to me, it's a pain in the rear no matter if you've got it running or not.

Don't mean to piss on your parade, but Java and Java Script are completely different beasts.  No connection.  Really.  JavaScript is something Netscape came up with and Micro$oft kind of supports in IE.

What error do you see?

That's the problem, when it comes to Javascript within Nutscrape while every so often I get it in Explorer as well.   Usually if a page is using it, IE crashes out as soon as I try to open the site that is using the javascript.

Too bad there's no extra program we can load to just richochet javascripts back to the webserver in modified form, or tweak cookies we don't like (even arfcom uses cookies), to send all kinds of mutant data to the source.

Or at least funnel it into the gutter, except for sites we set up as "OK"

IExploder 6.0 has exactly that feature. I don't know if earlier versions had it too, but I discovered in IE6. You can reject all cookies, except for sites you "trust".

Microshit intentionally tweaked the Windows code to make Java fail. Got sued and now there's a patch for XP.

All said and done in does work flawlessly under Windows 2000 for me.

Yeah, definitely make sure you're running the with the latest Micro$oft Java Virtual Machine.  Run Windows Update.

It goes farther than that.  M$ doesn't "kinda" support it.  They embrace and extend it.  they do proprietary things to it.

I write Java for a living.  JavaScript IS NOT THE SAME THING OR EVEN RELATED

Don't get pissed at JavaScript, get pissed at the asshole who wrote the stuff screwing up your browser.  Get mad at the browser company picking and choosing which parts of the standards to support.

Stop going to pr0n sites.  That will fix a lot of your JavaScript problems.

Trust me, I do my best.    It's not the porn sites that I get it with though.   It's various online forums, one of them is a game forum that has some rotating popup adds, 2-3 of the adds they use have something that causes fits with my browsers.   I've got a way around the main page where the pop ups are so I can avoid it there, but on other sites it still happens quite frequently.   Popups that cause crashes are one thing, but when I can't even get into the main site itself because it crashes within reading like the first 5k of the site, that's annoying as sin.    Personally I wish those who choose to use it on their page could make it so that it was still viewable for those who have chosen to disable these features, atleast make it so you can get past it and still view it in plain HTML.

I deal with what you describe by using Mozilla and disabling the window.open() on page transitions.  It's set with a line in the preferences file, which quite ironically is JavaScript.
In English, that means that 99% of popups never do.

I was just kidding about the pr0n.  I accidentally found some pr0n on the internet once.
